In recent weeks, Instagram has often taken center stage, whether it’s the deletion of rapper Booba’s controversial account, the blocking of nude photos in messages, or increasing the maximum duration of stories from 15 seconds to 60 seconds.
But this time Instagram is talking about him for a reason. It’s a pretty annoying bug. Indeed, many iPhone owners (most running iOS 16 or later) are reporting that it has become impossible to open the app on Twitter and other social media accounts.
Instagram error on iPhone since last update
All references tell the same story: On iOS, the Instagram app closes immediately after opening. The usual workarounds like restarting the smartphone will not work.
According to aggrieved users, the problem started to appear since the distribution of the latest v255.0 update From Instagram on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. Strangely enough, users on iOS 15 don’t seem to be affected by this bug.
“Instagram has been down for over 24 hours. As soon as the app is opened, it crashes instantly! I have success logging in via a web browser. If you are unable to use the app, log in via a browser until Instagram fixes the bug caused by the latest update.” Recommends a user on Twitter.

There are no patches to download yet
Other aggrieved users recommend: Keep the app running in the background to get rid of the error. On the other hand, if you uninstall it, the problem will return and restarting the app becomes impossible. So, the only possible solution to fix the problem in iOS 16 is, uninstall and reinstall the app, to run it once and let it run in the background.
It is currently unknown when Meta will release a patch. We will update this article as soon as we learn more about this topic. And you, are you affected by this error on your iPhone? Let us know in the comments.
