Every month, the equivalent of the entire United States population uses Twitter. This fact is not meant to be shocking, but is a testament to the popularity of a platform that has given new meaning to the phrase “scan-friendly typing”.
Twitter’s core premise, and largely the source of its appeal, is the public nature of its content. By default, anyone can see what you tweet and vice versa. Not only is everything on full screen, but anyone can also reply to someone else’s tweet. An important aspect of the Twitter experience is responding to a tweet and reading the replies left by others. This article will teach you how to do that.
Seeing Twitter Replies on a Mobile Device
Before we get into the technical procedure, a quick note on terminology. The terms “comment” and “reply” are used interchangeably when referring to replies to Tweets. The answer is the official name of the feature and will therefore be used in this article, but both are acceptable.
When you want to see replies to a tweet on a mobile platform, the best way to do it is to download the app. Twitter has a mobile website, but it’s not significantly different from the app, and the app will be easier to navigate. So, step one is to download the app and sign in to your account, then follow the steps below. iOS users can get the app from the App Store and Android users from Google Play.
- search tweet You want to see replies. Do this either from the search bar or browse the accounts you follow.
- Tap anywhere in the tweet text. You have to touch exactly the text, as any of the interactive elements will produce a different result. About that later.
That’s the whole process. When you touch the text, the answers will be displayed on a new screen. The answers will be displayed in chronological order, with the newest answers at the top and you can scroll down to see the old ones.
Seeing Twitter Replies on PC
Seeing the responses on a computer is by design very similar to the procedure on the mobile platform. Of course, there are Twitter apps for both Windows and MacOS, but you’re better off using your web browser. Open your browser and go to the Twitter website. After logging in, follow these steps:
- find tweet You are trying to see the answers for
- Click anywhere in the text Answers will open in the same tab to see the answers.
The methods listed above give you directions to see replies to a tweet and only replies. However, comments can be added to retweets, making them a kind of response. A “retweet with comment” acts pretty much the same as a tweet, except it refers to the tweet he’s commenting on. The difference between replying and retweeting is not the subject of this article, but suffice it to say that they serve very different purposes.
Seeing Retweets with Comments
If you want to see retweets with comments, it’s much better to do it on your computer. On a mobile device, Twitter can be done from the mobile website, but not from the mobile app. The process starts in the same way as the previous two. Navigate to the tweet in question in your browser and follow these steps:
- Right-click on the tweet’s timestamp, which will be displayed in the top right corner of the tweet.
- choose Copy Link Address from the drop-down menu. The exact wording may vary slightly depending on your browser, but you’re looking for the option to copy the link.
- Paste the link address into the Twitter search bar and press Enter.
You will now see all retweets, including comments. Oftentimes, people retweet a tweet for more exposure rather than responding, which results in most of the related comments ending up in the comment sections of the retweets. There may be a lot more retweets than replies, so remember to browse long if you’re looking for something specific.
These methods will also work in third party Twitter apps like Owly or Hootsuite (Google Play, App Store).
Just Tweet and See
You are now ready to interact with Twitter like a pro. Seeing replies to a tweet is as simple as tapping or clicking the text. Seeing all retweets with comments is a bit more complicated but not difficult.
Note that if you click on anything interactable in the tweet, it will redirect you to that linked object. This includes all “@” replies, links and Twitter interaction buttons. To see replies and retweets, you have to click on the text itself or right-click on the timestamp.
Do you usually reply or retweet? What criteria do you use to choose one or the other? Let us know in the comments section below.
