You probably know that almost everything we upload to the internet these days stays there, even if we delete it. That’s why, while he likes to let his followers know about everything they do during the day, we must be careful what we post on social media.
Being an influencer or famous usually requires a public profile, open to new followers who can post their reactions and comments. However, if you don’t have such requests, you may want your profile to be private and open only to your friends and family.
If you’re a Snapchat user and want to make your profile private, here’s how to do it.
How to Convert Your Profile to Private?
Once you create a profile on Snapchat and start customizing it by adding your profile photo or a Bitmoji, don’t forget to change your privacy settings as well.
If you want to make your profile private and only be visible to people you’re connected to, follow these simple steps:
- Open Snapchat on your smartphone.
- Tap your photo in the upper left corner to open your profile.
- Tap the Settings icon in the upper right corner of your screen.
- Proceed to the Additional Services section.
- You will see many privacy related options such as View My Story.
- To make sure no one else can see what you’ve posted, tap View My Story and select Friends Only. You can also select Private and prevent certain friends from seeing your content.
If you don’t want to appear in Quick Add, tap See Me on Quick Add and uncheck the box to turn the feature off.
If you want to hide your location from your friends, tap on See My Location and uncheck the box next to Ghost Mode. When you create the account on Snapchat, this option will already be checked, but you can change it at any time. Snapchat lets you choose who you want to share your location with, so you can choose a specific set of followers.
Control Who Can Contact You
The best way to avoid unpleasant situations is to control who can contact you in the first place. Here’s how to allow only your friends to contact you:
- Launch Snapchat and tap your photo to open your Profile page.
- Open Settings by tapping the icon in the upper right corner.
- Scroll down to find Additional Services.
- The second tab is called Contact Me – tap to open.
- Select My Friends instead of Everyone. Note that when you create a profile on Snapchat, My Friends is selected by default.
If you didn’t change this setting in time and were added by someone you don’t like, you can ignore their request.
- Tap your photo to open your profile page.
- Tap on Add Friend.
- Open the Add Me section to see your pending requests.
- Tap the x next to the username.
- Tap on Ignore to delete their request.
You will now stop receiving requests from this person.
How to Remove or Block a Friend
If you’ve already added someone on Snapchat but changed your mind and now want to delete them from your friends list, here’s how to do it:
- Swipe right to open the screen with your friends’ stories.
- Tap and hold a friend’s name for one second.
- Tap on More to see the available options.
- Tap Remove Friend to delete it from your Snapchat.
You can also do this by opening your chat with the person you want to remove and tapping their profile picture at the top of the screen. Then again tap on the three-dot icon at the top and select Remove Friend.
If you want to block a friend instead of just removing them, select Block instead of Remove in the last step of the described routines.
How to Unblock a Friend
If you change your mind and want to unblock a friend, do the following:
- Tap your photo in the upper left corner of the home screen.
- Tap the settings icon.
- Scroll down to find its blocked section.
- Tap the x next to the friend you want to unblock.
