The message behind every cheesy coming-of-age movie is true: It’s your superpower that makes you a nerd. For LinkedIn expert users, that superpower is their LinkedIn hashtag analytics skills.
If you came to this article hoping for excitement and intrigue, I’m sorry. But if you’ve clicked through to learn how hashtags are driving LinkedIn audience growth and – most importantly – how to tell if your LinkedIn hashtag strategy is working, you’ve come to the right place.
What is LinkedIn hashtag analytics?
LinkedIn hashtag analytics is the process of monitoring and analyzing the performance of hashtags on your LinkedIn posts, articles, company page, and profile.
A LinkedIn hashtag analytics check will estimate your post reach based on how many followers a hashtag has and how many likes and comments you can expect to receive. You will also discover many related hashtags along the way.
Why should you follow LinkedIn hashtag analytics?
Know what’s trending
The whole point of using hashtags on LinkedIn is to get more views, right? Analyzing them first takes only a few seconds and can give you an idea of how your post will perform before you publish it.
LinkedIn Hashtag Analytics, a free app I cover below, also includes tracking popular hashtags so you can jump into them while they’re still trending.
Increase your reach
Hashtags have long been a staple of social media, but they’re not as effective as they used to be. Except for the magical realm of LinkedIn, where you’re just one hashtag away from being a potential star.

Find your top hashtags
While many of the hashtags you analyze are appropriate, you may find some of your best hashtags during your research. These could be others your competitors or customers use, or those suggested by the LinkedIn hashtag analytics app.
3 ways to monitor LinkedIn analytics
1. Manually on LinkedIn
You don’t need anything but the interwebs to start doing LinkedIn analytics. (I’ll cover two time-saving software methods next, though.)
Open www.linkedin.com and search for the hashtag you want to use.
Hit To enter (Back on Mac) to check the hashtag you’re looking for. Or you can paste the following URL into your browser to go directly to the hashtag’s results page: https://www.linkedin.com/search/results/all/?keywords=%23socialmedia Enter the hashtag you want “socialmedia” at the end (“%23 Leave it as ” — this is the hashtag icon in the browser conversation.)
You can filter the results page to only see posts from your links or from a specific time period. You can also search for people talking about that topic; Those who use that hashtag on their profile will appear here.
Ok, but how can this hashtag help? You?
Inside posts In the field, click the bold, blue hashtag you want to rate from anyone’s post. In this case, #socialmedia.
Alternatively, you can use the following URL to reach this page immediately: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/hashtag/socialmedia/. Replace “Socialmedia” with the hashtag you want to use. There is no need for “%23” in this URL.
From this page, you can see the hashtag’s follower count. While it’s not an exact science, this number can help you predict whether your post has a good chance of appearing in people’s home streams.
Obviously, the LinkedIn algorithm won’t show this to everyone, but the follower count gives you an idea of a hashtag’s popularity and potential reach.
Keep a spreadsheet of the hashtags and follower counts you plan to use. Try different content in your content and measure their impact on your reach as part of your regular social media audit.
