Posting on your Instagram Story is a walk in the park. You can do this with your own posts, your friends’ posts, and posts from any public profile.
The principle is the same regardless of the source. Therefore, the article will not contain separate descriptions for your posts, public posts, and the like. However, we will tell you a trick to do this from the desktop.
Sharing Posts to Instagram Story
Stage 1
Launch the Instagram app and navigate to the post you want to share on your Story. Use the magnifying glass icon to search for friends or public posts. Or tap your profile icon to access your posts and browse for the picture you want to use.
Of course, you can also do this from your feed.
step 2
Once you find the post you like, tap the paper airplane icon below the picture. Remember, this action is valid regardless of the post’s destination.
Tap “Add a post to your story” and use the built-in tools to customize the picture or add a great message.
Stage 3
Hit the “Send” button at the bottom right of the screen for more sharing options.
When you tap on your Story, there is a drop-down menu that allows you to automatically share the Story to Facebook. If you’re doing this for marketing purposes, it’s worth keeping the option open. The post must have a higher reach and you don’t need to create separate Stories for both social networks.
Finally, click the Share button next to your Story and you’re ready.
Important notes
You can change the view permissions for your share. This option is available after tapping “Add post to your story” – it’s the Close Friends icon at the bottom of the screen. It also appears in the Share window. The cool thing is that you can create a custom friends list that can see the posts shared.
Tapping the paper airplane icon also allows you to share the post with your friends as a direct message. You can perform both operations one after the other; Press the Share button next to your friend’s nickname and tap Done to finish.
If you’re sharing a post from your friend’s or a public profile, Instagram will automatically credit the image. That’s why it’s recommended that you keep Instagram posts and profile public if you’re using it for business or marketing purposes.
However, if you are reposting, you can only do so if the user allows such sharing.
Yes, you can and the same steps as previously described apply. Of course, the important thing is that the video is public and sharing is allowed. You also have the option to decorate the clip with a doodle, custom text, and more.
It’s no secret that Instagram is limiting desktop usability. But there is a neat workaround that allows you to share some posts.
However, “Add post to your story” is not available when you click the paper airplane icon via the desktop version. But there is a way around this. Here’s what you need to do.
Stage 1
Launch Chrome, log into your Instagram account and right-click anywhere on the screen. Select Review and you will see a bunch of codes on the left side of the screen. Don’t worry, you don’t need to understand.
step 2
Click on the three vertical dots on the console and turn the “Dock side” direction down to get more screen space. Now click on the smartphone icon in the upper left corner of the console.
Then go to the top of the window and click the first drop-down menu on the left. Choose the type of smartphone you are using and voila, you get mobile Instagram on desktop.
Stage 3
That being said, clicking the paper airplane icon will not allow you to share a post directly to the Story. The solution is to take a screenshot of the post, save it to your computer, and then repost it manually.
Step 4
After you get the picture, refresh the Instagram page, click on Your Story and select the picture from your computer. You can add doodles, custom text, and other customizations. Select “Add a post to your story” to finish and that’s it.
Important Considerations
Don’t forget to tag or refer to the original creator of the post. The limitations of this method include the number of actions you have to take and the inability to reshare videos. Other than that, it’s very useful.
Sharing is caring
If you remember, posting to your Story was very difficult until Instagram decided to add the feature. Your only limit at this point is your imagination and this is one of the easiest ways to draw attention to your old posts.
