How to Post to Instagram from Your Computer?

Instagram prides itself on connecting people with inappropriate and disrespectful photos from everyday life. They want users to share the moments from that amazing dessert they ate the other night to the sunrise they enjoyed walking their dogs in the park. There’s also a dog, of course. They definitely need to share the dog.

This is why Instagram has been stubborn about allowing users to upload photos from the desktop to the desktop site. They want to discourage photos that are too flashy and heavily edited. After all, these would not be in the spirit of the app.

However, users feel quite differently, and many have turned to third-party apps and tools to get their desktop photos into their Instagram feed. And now, since Instagram’s May 2017 update, it’s easier than ever to bring desktop photos into the limelight.

May 2017 Update

With the new update, new tools came to Instagram’s mobile site. Until then, the mobile site had the same limitations as the desktop site. Users can view their posts and like or comment on photos. They can also find new people to follow and view notifications. However, they were unable to post new photos on their publication. This feature was definitely the mobile app’s domain.

The new update made it possible to upload new photos directly from your phone; It’s a move that has some users scratching their heads. After all, what’s the point of being able to install via mobile site if you already have the app? How does that honestly change anything?

Well, Instagram may have thought it was throwing users a bone after repeated objections to being able to upload without the app. However, they were still unwilling to make concessions on the desktop front. Little did they know that this seemingly useless feature would be extremely useful for users who want to play games on the system.

Accessing the Mobile Site from Your Desktop

It’s easier than ever to upload to the desktop site since the May update. All you have to do is access the mobile site from your desktop and it’s easier than you think.

Chrome allows users to switch between mobile and desktop views with a few simple clicks. Standard instructions work on most computers. However, if your computer is like mine, you’ll run into a hiccup. Fortunately, I got you covered.

Standard Method:

  1. Log into your Instagram account from your desktop.
  2. Right click on the page.
  3. choose To examine. How to Post to Instagram from Your Computer? 2
  4. Look at the top line of the window that opens.
  5. Click the mobile/desktop toggle. How to Post to Instagram from Your Computer? 3

You should be looking at the mobile view of the app. It should have the same tools as the mobile website, including a button to upload photos.

Now for the hiccups. When I followed the instructions above, which seemed to work for most people, I got a narrower version of the desktop site. In other words, the mobile site looked as it should because it was thin, but none of the tools or formatting had really changed. Most importantly, I still could not upload photos. But after doing some testing I got it working with the following steps.

My Method:

  1. go google.com.
  2. Right click on the page.
  3. choose To examine. How to Post to Instagram from Your Computer? 4
  4. Look at the top line of the window that opens.
  5. Click the mobile/desktop toggle. How to Post to Instagram from Your Computer? 5
  6. Medicine Instagram.com enter it in the search bar. How to Post to Instagram from Your Computer? 6
  7. click Instagram in search results. How to Post to Instagram from Your Computer? 7

You should now be looking at the Instagram mobile site. For whatever reason, my computer wanted to only allow the key to work from the Google homepage. Go figure.

Uploading Photos From Your Desktop

Either way, once you have a look at the mobile site, you can upload photos and add them to your story or regular feed.

Add Story Photos:

  1. Click the camera icon in the upper left corner. How to Post to Instagram from Your Computer? 8
  2. Navigate to the photo you selected using the finder window that opens.
  3. click Open. How to Post to Instagram from Your Computer? 9
  4. click Add to your story. How to Post to Instagram from Your Computer? 10

If you don’t see the option to add the photo to your story, or if you get a message saying you need to rotate your screen to add it to your story, make sure the review window is still open on the right. For some reason, the mobile site behaves slightly differently when open than when closed.

Add Normal Photos:

  1. Click the add photo icon in the bottom row of icons. How to Post to Instagram from Your Computer? 11
  2. Navigate to the photo you selected using the finder window that opens.
  3. click Open. How to Post to Instagram from Your Computer? 12
  4. Edit the shape of the photo and add filters. How to Post to Instagram from Your Computer? 13
  5. click Next. How to Post to Instagram from Your Computer? 14
  6. Add a title or location.
  7. click To share. How to Post to Instagram from Your Computer? 15

Note that your editing options are limited when uploading to the mobile site and uploading via the app. You can adjust the frame and add filters, but you cannot change the lighting, color, or other specific effects.

Now you can share those amazing photos you took during your Rocky Mountain ski trip to your digital canon without having to upload them to your phone. Instagram can still be finicky about uploading photos, but since desktop uploading is so easy, who cares if they’ll come around one day.
