How to Make Yolo with Snapchat

Yolo has only been out for about a month and has already topped the App Store download charts. It has become incredibly popular with Snapchat users as it adds an element of fun or freedom depending on what you want it for. Either way, you should try it if you like Snapchat. This tutorial will walk you through how to set up and use Yolo with Snapchat.

Yolo is an anonymous question app. It connects with Snapchat and uses your login and bitmoji to let you post any question you want to your account. Friends can answer the question anonymously or vice versa, and the laughs begin there.

Despite negative practices like this, Yolo has managed to avoid most of them so far. Reviews for the app are overwhelmingly positive, with the vast majority citing great experiences, answering questions negatively, and laughing while using the app. This makes a nice change and is even more reason to try.

Use Yolo with Snapchat

Yolo was built with the Snap Kit platform, so it will easily integrate with Snapchat. You download Yolo, add your Snapchat credentials and optionally your bitmoji, and you can use the app to ask questions about your Snapchat that people can answer anonymously.

  1. You can install Yolo from the App Store here or from the company website.
  2. Add your Snapchat details when prompted by the setup and add your bitmoji if you want.
  3. Select Continue and ‘Retrieve Anonymous Messages’ when prompted to get Yolo to work.
  4. Allow notifications if prompted to ensure two-way messaging is working.

There is a EULA that can answer the question of why everyone is using Yolo nicely. By using ‘YOLO’ you agree to the terms of service (EULA) and privacy policy before linking your accounts. YOLO has no tolerance for objectionable content or malicious users. You will be banned for any improper use.’

While most social networks have something similar, it’s buried under legal pages. This is front and center and you cannot connect Yolo to Snapchat without agreeing to the EULA. It’s a good start that seems to work. Let it go long.

Asking questions with Yolo

Once you set it up and log in with your Snapchat login, you can send a Yolo notification that says ‘Send me anonymous messages, Swipe Up’. This is an invitation for others to come up with a question they’ve always wanted to ask you and go from there. Of course, you can do the same for your friends.

Answering questions with Yolo

When you open Yolo, you will see a home page with a list of questions asked. You can choose a question and answer it as you see fit.

  1. Choose a question from the list. It will appear in a new popup with an answer section below it.
  2. Write your answer under the question.
  3. Select Reply.

Also, at the bottom of the popup, you should see two options called Report and Block this User. This is linked to the EULA where Yolo gives you the tools you need to reduce toxicity.

If you hit Reply instead of typing, you’ll be taken to Snapchat, where you can start recording a video response or take a photo to answer the question. The answers are then posted to your Story for people to see.

This question-answering process works the same whether you’re answering questions from friends or questions asked of you.

Is Yolo really anonymous?

The most important part of Yolo is anonymity. Because the app is aimed at young people, it gives them the chance to ask questions they would normally be embarrassed to ask. The anonymity feature helps ask questions that most people wouldn’t normally ask, and for the most part it seems to have been used in a positive way.

Sure, there is an opportunity for people to abuse Yolo, but you have the tools to thwart that kind of thing. Even if you don’t know who asked a particular question, Yolo can block or report that user when you hit the button. The app will not share these details with you, but will likely take action on your behalf.

There are several websites that have popped up since Yolo that say they can break this anonymity and show you who is asking a question. As far as I can tell, they either don’t work or, like most sites of this type, use random names from your Snapchat friends list. If the name is not shared with your app, any random website cannot be accessed!
