Truth be told, this happens every time I log into Tinder; it happens to everyone. You’re sitting at the bus stop or arriving a little early for work, so you run the Tinder app and scroll a bit. No, no, no, no, oh wow she’s beautiful…..no! You swiped left! Why!? Is there a way to fix this mistake or has the woman of your dreams disappeared forever?
This may be a #firstworld issue, but the struggle is real and a common issue among Tinder users. Most of us aren’t really mindful when we swipe – we’re on autopilot when looking at pictures and it’s really easy to engage in a habitual left (or right) swipe, and it’s only too late that we realize that a mistake has been made. when our brain reaches our fingers. The problem is so pervasive that, in fact, Tinder has wisely chosen to monetize its ability to undo our mistakes by making Rewind a part of Tinder premium tiers. (Imagine if Microsoft Word would only let you hit the “Undo” button if you subscribed to the premium package!)
So if you made a mistake, are you completely unlucky?
The bottom line is clear but simple: you can use Rewind if you’re a Tinder Plus or Gold subscriber. If you don’t use Tinder Plus or Gold, you’re out of luck in the short term BUT there may be hope for you in the long run. Also, there is a way to take advantage of the Rewind functionality. without Paying for Tinder Gold or Tinder Plus. In this post, I’ll show you how to use Rewind, how to get a rematch if you don’t have access to this feature, and a way to get the Rewind equivalent for free.
Try again after swiping on Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold
Tinder Plus and Gold are subscription-based Tinder levels that cost money. Tinder Plus is Tinder’s first-tier offering of its premium services, while Tinder Gold is Tinder Plus with the addition of knowing if someone is swiping on you right before you’re asked to swipe. With either subscription level, if you make a mistake while swiping (in any direction), you can undo it – but only if you catch it right away.
- Stay on Tinder – don’t close the app or switch to another profile.
- There will be a small yellow arrow at the bottom left of the screen. Tap.
- This will retract the previous profile – make the right decision this time.
It is very important that you do not close the application because if you do it will not always make your choice. This seems a bit hit and miss if the Internet is to be believed, so be careful.
Wait, the fast track
A bit of good news: even if you don’t have Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold, you’ll eventually get another chance to swipe right, as profiles eventually repeat themselves. It may take some time, though, depending on how many people are in your area. However, it is possible to speed up this process, especially if you live in a community that is not that large. This won’t work in New York or Los Angeles, but is viable in Rapid City or Colorado Springs.
The idea is that if you know the age and distance of the person you accidentally swiped left, then you can narrow your criteria on Tinder to just that age range and that distance, reset your profile, and find them again relatively quickly. This, of course, works best if the person is very close to you because then you can drastically change your distance filter from 50 miles (or whatever) to 2 miles (or whatever connection you missed) and drastically. reduce the number of people you swipe. Assuming you find the person again and manage to match, your description of how hard you went to find them again may sound either overly creepy and perverse to them, or overly romantic and sweet. So good luck with that!
Try again after scrolling with 6tin
This may be more trouble than you want to experience. (“So it was sweet and all but…”)
However, there is a way to use Tinder that will give you access to the Rewind functionality without having to pay for it. There is a third party app called 6tin which is basically a Tinder shell for Windows 10. If you start using 6tin for your Tinder sessions, you will have unlimited access to Rewind. 6tin has some other features, most importantly, you can search for Tinder users using their profile name. If you’re a serious Tinder user and are on the Windows 10 platform, porting your Tinder sessions to 6tin might work. Here’s how to use the 6tin Rewind feature.
- Stay in 6tin as it will only remember the current session.
- Select ‘recent swipes’ from the menu to revisit the last profiles you swiped in that session.
- Swipe right that you did wrong.
As with Tinder Plus, 6tin will only remember the swipes you made in that session. As long as the profile you accidentally swiped is at 6tin and during the current session, you can see it on the last swipe and change your swipe.
How do you encourage people to swipe right on your profile?
If you’re already a Tinder user, you’ll know that a picture is by far the most important part of your profile. You may have the best written profile text in the world, but if your pictures are terrible, most people will never read it. Therefore, you should make sure that your main image and supporting images are good. Smile, keep it simple and make sure the image is of good quality. Try to show yourself a little in your supporting images. If you have a hobby or passion, include an image of you doing so if appropriate. Numerous tests show that people (especially women) respond positively to smiles, so remember that a smile really does increase your attractiveness.
While the image is crucial to getting the first look, your bio needs to back it up. Keep it short and to the point, but don’t sell yourself short. Try to summarize yourself in a few sentences. Make it funny or entertaining if you can, because humor wins. Otherwise, be smart and use spell checking before posting. At all costs avoid negativity and comments that make you seem more grouchy! Be honest about what you’re looking for – if you just want to date, don’t say you’re on Tinder to find true love and vice versa! You’re wasting everyone’s time playing games like this.
Have your images and bio checked by someone you trust before posting – preferably someone of the same gender. And don’t be afraid to change your profile as time goes on.
Interacting with someone on Tinder
How do you start your chats when you get this match? A simple “hello” in real life, where people can see your body language and smile, works great, but on the internet it doesn’t cut the mustard. There are millions of people out there looking for a connection or love and there is a lot of competition in both pools. You have to stand out and be immediately interesting. Don’t start any conversation with just ‘Hello’. You are very likely to fail. Again, humor or something clever will have the best chance of success. If you’re not funny, be smart or clever. If you can’t be either, just be yourself.
Put yourself in your audience’s shoes
Online dating is an exercise in marketing and you are the product. It makes sense to see yourself from your “customer” perspective, as marketers do. Evaluate your images and bio from the perspective of the type of person you are trying to attract. Will they like it? Will they find it interesting? Will they find your bio to be stupid in a good way or stupid in a bad way?
The same goes for answers. Play politely and hook the person by acting nice/fun/clever or engaging. The more you think about it, the better results you will get. It really is that simple. Good luck!
