How to Find Someone on Instagram

Despite earning the “social media” title, many social media apps don’t make it that easy to find people. Instagram tries to do better with some handy ways to connect with friends and discover new accounts. They even make it easy to access these discovery methods from multiple locations within the app. But with so many tools, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. That’s why we’ve laid out all the ways to find new Instagram accounts to follow.

Find people you know

Let’s start with your real-life friends and family. Some may have Instagram accounts without you even realizing it. Instagram helps users find familiar people with accounts in a variety of ways.

Connect with People

First, check your phone book. Instagram can be synced with your contacts list on your iPhone or Android device.

1. Go to your Instagram profile.
2. Tap the follow icon.
3. To find Link Contacts and tap Connect on the right.
4. Faucet allow access.
5. Scroll through the list of contacts displayed and tap . Follow to the right of any account you want to follow.

Doing so will sync Instagram with your contacts. Instagram will store this data and after that you can go to the Discover page and scroll through your list of people who have accounts.

Connect With Your Facebook Friends

Not enough people with Instagram accounts? Facebook has owned Instagram since 2012. The two social media platforms are easy to sync, allowing you to post your latest Instagram photo to your Facebook feed and find your Facebook friends’ Instagram accounts.

1. Go to your Instagram profile.
2. Tap the follow icon.
3. To find Connect to Facebook and tap Connect on the right.
4. Faucet Connect Giving Instagram and Facebook the right to talk to each other.
5. Choose how you want to log in.
6. Follow the instructions to open Facebook and Instagram.

When all is said and done, you will have a list of Facebook contact accounts, just as you would for your phone contacts. In fact, it will be accessible from the same location on Discover. Follow these accounts as you follow others by tapping Follow on the right.

Find Popular Instagram Accounts

Maybe you are not interested in following people you know. After all, you’re getting what looks like a thousand Facebook updates a day. You don’t need to hear any more from those people. Try following a popular celebrity account or Instagram personality. To do this, you need to know a little about Instagram’s search functions.

First, tap the magnifying glass icon at the bottom of the screen. This will take you to the search page. From here, you have a few options.

• featured images – Tap on a featured image to see what people you already follow are enjoying. This is a great way to find new content in areas of interest to you.
• Featured Stories – tap one of these circles at the top to view stories from accounts related to your interest.
• Call – tap the search bar to search for a specific name.

When you search, you will notice that the search results can be improved using different tabs. To specifically target accounts People tab.

You can search for an Instagram name if you know it. If you don’t, try searching for the name of the person or product to see if you can find the right account.

Note that none of these functions guarantee accounts that are new to you. This is not a method for discovering new accounts. It’s for searching all of Instagram, including accounts you already follow. However, this is the best way to target a specific account if you have it in mind.

Discover New Accounts

Let’s say you don’t have an account in mind and you just want to see what’s out there. Go to Instagram’s Explore feature to find new accounts that Instagram thinks you might like. If that doesn’t help you, you can also do a little exploration on your own.

Access the discover Instagram page.

1. Go to your Instagram profile.
2. Tap the follow icon.
3. tap on Recommended tab.

These accounts were chosen for various reasons. In most cases, they can be followed by other accounts you follow. They can also be associated with pages you like on Facebook. Finally, they pull from your Contacts and Facebook friends (if you’ve linked them to Instagram).

Tap Follow to the right of an account you want to follow, and tap Hide to the right of any account you’re not interested in.

Discover Your Own

Still not satisfied? Try making some of your own catch. Choose a favorite account and see who they follow.

1. Find the account from the list of pages you follow or from your Instagram feed.
2. Go to the main page of the account.
3. Faucet Follow.
4. Review the list of accounts they follow and Follow to the right of all accounts that interest you.

Note that not everyone wants to let everyone see their Instagram posts. When you choose to follow someone, you may have to wait for them to accept the follow before you can access their profile.
