How to Change Your Username on Gfycat

Do you have a one-year username that you wish you didn’t write down when creating your Gfycat account? Of course, you can always create a new account and choose a better username. But then what about the status of your account and all the people following your creations?

Changing your username is not that simple, but might be a better solution. Here’s what you need to know about Gfycat accounts, usernames and various profile settings and customizations so you can enjoy the ultimate personalized experience.

Creating Gfycat Account and Username

You can have a regular and professional account on Gfycat. While there are some differences between them, such as the option to watch HD gifs with a professional account, most of your account management and profile settings options are the same.

This means, unfortunately, that you cannot change your username. At least, you can’t do it yourself. You can always contact Gfycat support and request a username change. However, you may want to make sure you write a good reason for it, otherwise there is no guarantee that your request will be accepted.

If you don’t have a Gfycat account yet, here’s how to sign up.

1. Go to gfycat’s main web page.
2. Click the Sign Up button in the upper right corner.
3. Type username.
4. Type the password.
5. Enter your e-mail address.
6. Click the blue Sign Up button.
7. Go to your email inbox.
8. Wait for the verification email.
9. Open the email and click the verification link to confirm your account.

Gfycat has one of the simplest registration forms. And if you want to make things even simpler, you can connect with your Facebook account without having to go through the sign-up process.

What You Can Do in Gfycat

Certain customization options are available for all Gfycat account holders. Here are some of the things you can do.

Add/Edit Name

Gfycat does not reveal your email address to other users. Instead, it displays your username, your name, or both. By default, after registering an account on Gfycat, only one username is added to your account.

Here’s how to add a name to your profile:

1. Log into your Gfycat account.
2. Click on the username icon in the upper right corner.
   
3. Select profile.
4. Click the Edit button.
   
5. Go to the Name field and type the name you want.
6. Click the Save Settings button.

You can use the same steps to change your name at any time. Follow steps 1 – 4, delete your current name and type a different one. After saving the changes, your new name will be displayed in front of your username.

You can change your profile photo from the same menu. To do this, you will need to upload a new one whenever you want to refresh your profile picture.

1. Log into your Gfycat account.
2. Click on the username icon.
3. Select profile.
4. Click the Edit button.
5. Click the Upload New Image button.
6. Browse your device for a new image.
7. Make sure it’s under 200KB.
8. Click the Save Changes button.

Note that .png and .jpg files work best for profile pictures.

Manage Notifications

Gfycat can be heavy on notifications. If you want to avoid drowning in notification emails, you may want to change some of the notification settings in your account.

1. Login to your account.
2. Click the username icon.
3. Select settings.
4. Go to the left side panel.
5. Click Notifications.
6. Uncheck any boxes you don’t find necessary.
7. Click Save Changes.

If it’s time for a security upgrade, you can always change your Gfycat account password. The process is simple and doesn’t even require an email notification.

1. Open your account page.
2. Click the username icon.
3. Select settings.
4. Select Password from the menu on the left.
   
5. Enter your current password.
6. Enter a new password.
7. Confirm password.
8. Click Save Changes.

Is It Time for Gfycat to Offer More?

Gfycat may be one of the oldest video hosting platforms still in the market, but that may not be a sufficient excuse to have limited customization options. Changing usernames is allowed on so many platforms today that it seems odd that the Gfycat team didn’t include this feature.
