It’s easy to change some things in your Bumble account, like your education. However, the site has pretty tight controls over things like changing your name; this can be an issue for some people who want to maintain some degree of privacy online.
Your display name on Bumble cannot be changed from the one set when you signed up for the service, so if you decide to use a nickname or an alternative form of your own name, you’re out of luck. What did you sign up with?

Creating a Bumble Account
When you sign up for Bumble, you have two options for creating an account. You can create an account using your Facebook account or you can create an account using a phone number.
If you create the account using your Facebook account, Bumble will use your name as listed on your Facebook account and you will not have the option to use a different name. If you are using a phone number, you can give it any name you want.
Creating a Bumble Account with Facebook
When you sign up for Bumble with Facebook, Bumble takes all your profile information, including your name, from your Facebook account. There is no way to change your name unless you change it on Facebook first, so change your name on your Facebook account BEFORE signing up for Bumble.
When you select the ‘Continue with Facebook’ option and open the Facebook application, the following window will appear.
The only information required is the information in your public profile. If you’re not comfortable sharing with Bumble, you can uncheck the others. However, even if the non-essential information is unchecked, the app still retrieves your age and location.
Creating a Bumble Account with a Phone Number
When you choose to use a phone number, Bumble will call the phone number you provided to verify your account. After receiving the call, you must type the last four digits of the caller ID in the boxes provided. The call should arrive within 30 seconds of signing up.
You can also choose to receive a text message instead of a phone call, in which case you will receive a text message with your confirmation code.
Once the verification is complete you will be able to enter any name or date of birth you want.
What If I Already Have A Bumble Account?
Unfortunately, Bumble does not allow you to change your profile name after signing up.
If you already have a Bumble account and want to create a new one with a new name, the first step is to delete your existing account. This means you will lose all your previous conversations and matches, so keep that in mind before performing this action.
Deleting Your Bumble Account
If you’re ready to delete your old account and create a new one, follow these steps:
- go to Settings The menu in the Bumble app.
- Click Delete the account button.
- verify your decision to delete your account.
- Create your new Bumble account with your new name.
Remove Access to Facebook
Even if you delete your Bumble profile, the app still has access to your Facebook account if you originally used Facebook to sign up for Bumble.
To remove this access, follow these steps:
- Open the Facebook app and Account settings symbol.
- scroll down Settings and Privacy and open the dropdown menu. In the menu, tap on Settings.
- In the settings menu, swipe up until you reach it. Apps and Websites and tap to open.
- At the top of the Apps and Websites menu, you can find: I logged in with Facebook settings. Tap on it.
- Tap the circle in front of Bumble to mark it, then To pick up To revoke permissions to read data from Facebook.
Now that you’ve removed Bumble from your first Facebook account, you can link the app to an alternative app with the name you want displayed on Bumble, or sign up for a new account using a phone number.
