How to Change Board Cover on Pinterest

Pinterest is one of the most colorful social networks around. It has a cacophony of colors and images that is a bit small on mobile but very pleasing to the eye on desktop. Besides adding images to attract followers, you can also use board covers to add extra charm. This tutorial will show you how to add or change a board cover on Pinterest.

Dashboard covers are images you see on fascia boards on Pinterest. They usually show you what to expect when you visit the board and may contain some text. There are thousands of different types of board covers, and you can add your own Pinterest boards to them to make them more attractive, better organized, or both.

Add a board cover on Pinterest

To do this, you will need a picture for the cover. This should be relevant to the subject of the board. You can edit in your favorite image editor or use Pinterest’s built-in image editor to crop and resize. I find it easier to edit using a special image editor like Paint.net or GIMP, but how you do that is entirely up to you.

The ideal image size for a Pinterest board cover is 2170 x 1460 pixels, but you can use whatever size you want and it will resize accordingly. Some Pinners add text to their images. It’s usually a one- or two-word description of the username, brand or website, and board. I recommend doing this as it gives a much better first impression and tells the visitor exactly what to expect before entering the board.

If you plan to use your own image or an image you have edited, you must first add it to that board. Then you can choose it as your board image after uploading.

1. Sign in to Pinterest from your desktop browser. You can use mobile if you wish, but desktop is much easier for this.
2. Sign in if necessary or select your username at the top.
3. Select the Boards tab.
4. Select the board to which you want to add a cover.
5. Upload the clipboard cover image to your board.
6. Select the pencil icon at the top to edit your board.
7. Select Change where you see the cover.
8. Add your picture to the cover.
9. Add a description above the cover to add interest.
10. Select Save When Complete to apply your changes.

This much. Your board should now have an attractive cover image.

Change a board cover on Pinterest

Changing the cover of a board on Pinterest is the same as adding a board. This time you will select another image instead of the current one. Otherwise it’s exactly the same.

1. Use GIMP or Paint.net to prepare your image. Add text to the picture if you want and save as JPEG.
2. Select the Boards tab.
3. Select the board to which you want to add a cover.
4. Upload your new board cover image to your board.
5. Select the pencil icon at the top to edit your board.
6. Select Change where you see the cover.
7. Change the cover image.
8. Select Save when done.

You have now changed your board cover on Pinterest.

Change a board cover using the Pinterest app

I won’t bore you here by saying it twice, as adding and replacing dashboard covers is essentially the same. If you’re adding or replacing, simply say you followed the steps but made the appropriate choice.

If you’re using your own image, you’ll need to upload it to your phone or Pinterest before trying these steps.

1. Open the Pinterest app on your phone.
2. Select your profile on your Boards page.
3. Under the board you want to change, select Edit.
4. Select Dashboard Covers from the new menu on the left.
5. Select the picture you want to add or change.
6. Select Done.

The process is as simple on mobile as on desktop but I find the whole process easier on a larger screen. Whichever way you do it, the result is the same. You now have a new board cover about its content, and perhaps text that tells visitors exactly what to expect when promoting your name, brand or anything else.
