Some photo ops you share among your friends are best kept away from the prying eyes of your in-laws. Some cosplay selfies don’t have to fall into the hands of nosy co-workers. Some perfectly innocent pictures are just right for one audience but not so good for another.
Sometimes you need a second Instagram account to put together your special interests, party pictures and more.
Wait, Can I Have Multiple Accounts?
Certainly. And you can access all your accounts from the same app on your phone. The only catch is that you can only access one at a time.
Fortunately, Instagram realized that many people need multiple accounts and has made it easy to balance multiple accounts. Version 7.15 of the app introduced account switching, which connects 5 Instagram accounts. Account switching allows users to switch between these accounts without having to log in again each time. This is exactly what users with multiple accounts had to do before this update.
We will talk about how to create a new account and link it to your existing account for ease of access.
Creating a Second Instagram Account
This is as easy as creating your first Instagram account. In fact, you go through pretty much the same steps. The only problem is you cannot use the same email address as your current account. But who doesn’t have two emails these days?
- go Instagram.com.
- Fill in the fields provided to create a new account. Use your mobile phone number or a new email address.
- click Become a member.
- A confirmation code will be sent to your inbox or sent to your phone as a text message. Write and send.
Congratulations, you are now the proud owner of not one but two Instagram accounts.
Adding Your Account to Account Switching
Now it’s time to link this Instagram account to your app. Just take your phone and log into your original account.
- Go to your profile by tapping the profile icon on the bottom line.
- Tap the settings icon.
- Scroll down and tap add account.
- Enter the username and password for the account you just created.
You can do this up to three more times. Note that you must first create the account using the instructions above. If you try to add an account that doesn’t exist, you’ll get an error.
Switching Between Accounts
After adding the account to your app, you can quickly and easily switch between the account and your original account.
- Go to your profile.
- Tap the username at the top of the screen.
- Select the account you want to access from the drop-down menu.
No login information is requested. You will immediately be redirected to the feed of the new account.
Unlinking an Account
Want to put one of your accounts on the back burner? We can’t say we blame you. To unlink an account, simply log out. Just go to that account’s profile, click on the settings icon and Sign out. If you want to unlink several accounts, tap . Sign Out of All Accounts and log back into the one you want to keep.
