This was the question that started thousands of sleepless nights: “How often should I post to social media?”

Of course, there is much, much more to a successful social media strategy than simply sharing the optimal number of posts: It’s not a magic formula, let’s get this clear.

There’s a lot of pressure to find that sweet frequency spot, though. You don’t want to overwhelm your followers or feel like you’re spamming the news feed. You also don’t want to be forgotten or miss out on exposure opportunities.

But how much is too much? How much is too little? (And then once you get it he out, when is the best time to send?)

The good news: You can stop your social sharing panic spiral. We have all the information you need about Exactly how often should you post on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn to truly optimize your reach – without disturbing your followers.

We deepened the research and consulted with our own social media team to discover the ideal number of posts per day (or week) for each platform. Here’s a quick rundown of what we found, but read on for more in-depth details:

  • Open Instagrampost between 3-7 times per week.
  • Open Facebookpost between 1 and 2 times a day.
  • Open excitementpost between 1 and 5 Tweets a day.
  • Open LinkedInpost between 1 and 5 times a day.

Every social media account is unique, so testing and analyzing your results is absolutely essential. But read on for a detailed breakdown of some general rules to use as a starting point…then you can let the great experiment begin.

How often do you post on Instagram?

It is generally recommended that you post to your Instagram feed 2-3 times a week and not more than 1 time per day. Stories can be published more often.

During Instagram’s Creator Week in June 2021, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri suggested that posting 2 feed posts per week and 2 Stories per day is ideal for building followers on the app.

It’s worth noting that businesses share 1.56 posts in their daily feed to keep up with your competitors (or enemies!). This may seem like a lot, but a social media content calendar can help make regular posts a breeze!

The current strategy of the Moyens I/O social media team is to post to the main feed 2 to 3 times a week and to Stories 2 to 3 times a week.

“How often does your audience wants to hear from you,” says Brayden Cohen, social marketing team leader. “Focus on building a steady pace: you can increase your followers by 2X by posting consistently every week, compared to those who post less often than once a week.”

Important Instagram stats to keep in mind when posting:

  • Instagram has 3.76 billion visits every day
  • 500 million people use Stories every day
  • The average user spends 30 minutes a day on Instagram
  • 81% of people use Instagram to research products and services
  • 63% of American users check Instagram at least once a day

How often do you post on Facebook?

It is generally recommended not to post more than once a day and more than twice a day.

In fact, some studies have even found drop Engage if you’re sharing more than that… so don’t be too happy. Aim for quality over quantity.

The average Facebook Page shares 1.55 posts per day. So 1 to 2 posts a day is just right for Moyens I/O’s social goals.

“A daily post will increase followers 4x faster than posting less than once a week. It makes sense: more visibility,” says Brayden.

To keep that regular content coming, it’s a good idea to set up a content calendar to stay organized. Try our free content calendar template or play with the Moyens I/O Planner tool.

Important Facebook statistics to keep in mind when posting:

  • Facebook is the third most visited website in the world
  • More than half of American users check Facebook multiple times a day
  • The average user spends 34 minutes a day on Facebook
  • 80% of people access the platform using mobile only

How often do you post on Twitter?

It is generally recommended to post 1-2 times a day and a maximum of 3-5 times a day.

of course there is plenty of accounts that post 50 or 100 times a day. If you have the time, we certainly won’t stop you.

But to keep your brand presence active and engaged on Twitter, you don’t really need to drop everything and Tweet an FT concert.

In fact, for the general @Moyens I/O channel (where the audience is followers, customers, and leads), the Moyens I/O team posts one thread and another post of 7 to 8 Tweets a day. On our @hoosuitebusiness channel (aims to support Enterprise initiatives), they stick to 1 to 2 Tweets per day.

For the team, this is more than enough to drive engagement and growth.

No matter how often you post, remember that best practice is to follow the rule of thirds:

  • ⅓ tweet promoting your business
  • ⅓ share personal stories
  • ⅓ are informative insights from experts or influencers

  • 42% of American users check Twitter at least once a day
  • The average time a user spends on Twitter is about 15 minutes per visit.

How often do you post on LinkedIn?

It is generally recommended to post on LinkedIn at least once a day and up to 5 times a day.

LinkedIn itself has seen brands that share one post per month gain followers six times faster than those with a lower profile. This pattern continues with more frequent posts: companies that post weekly get twice the engagement, while groups that post daily get even more attention.

Moyens I/O tends to be on the more frequent end of the spectrum… In fact, the social team increased their daily posts on LinkedIn in 2021: from two to three and sometimes five per day depending on campaigns and events.

“An increase in posting pace has also meant an increase in engagement,” says social marketing strategist Iain Beable. “However, it better reflects the type of content we create. In general, if you increase the rhythm, you are likely to see a decrease in engagement rate as there is more content. As we’re seeing growth, it shows that the content we create is more relevant and more engaging to our target audience. “

How do I know the best posting frequency for social media?

As with all things social, finding the best frequency to post on any platform will take some trial and error.

“Personally, I always found this topic: How many times should I post a day? It’s a little over-thought and definitely secondary to the quality of the content posted,” Iian says.

“The increase in key performance metrics like clicks and high-quality engagements (likes, comments and shares) is primarily dependent on how a content adds value to me as a reader.”

Briefly: The quality of the content is more important than the frequency. Posting more content can help to some extent, but the more relevant and useful your content is to the target audience, the better your social channels will perform.

“The same can be said for social, in the same way that organic search goes from focusing on the keyword to the intent behind the keyword,” Iian adds. “Social algorithms are now emphasizing the types of content that will provide value to the user, rather than showing everything that is posted to the user. “
