Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover ‘in danger’, billionaire could cancel everything

The Washington Post reports that Elon Musk’s $44 billion deal to buy Twitter ” in danger ”, the billionaire camp “ stopped getting into certain discussions about funding The Tesla CEO camp of the deal would come to the conclusion many data experts predicted: Twitter’s spam accounts cannot be verified.

As a reminder, we’re not the first to report that Musk may withdraw his takeover bid. Billionaire threatens Twitter last accusing the company of hiding information about the number of bot and spam accounts on the platform. Twitter later agreed to be more transparent about it to record the transaction.

Twitter deletes 1 million spam accounts per day

On Thursday, Twitter told reporters, removes over a million spam accounts from its platform every day. That’s double what CEO Parag Agrawal said in a Twitter thread in May, but the company maintains its longstanding position that bots make up less than 5% of its active user base.

Twitter even revealed how it got the 5% figure, ” multiple human reviews of thousands of randomly sampled accounts consistently over time “. Quizzes also use private account data such as the user’s IP address and location.

But that doesn’t seem to be enough to convince Elon Musk, who is convinced that fake accounts abound on the social network, and that their high numbers could thus drastically reduce the company’s value. In either case, if the agreement is not finalized, Musk faces $1 billion severance pay in addition to the risk of heavy legal costs for a lawsuit based on breach of contract.
