Does POF Notify Other User When You Take a Screenshot?

Plenty of Fish (POF) is one of the oldest dating sites still in operation. Indeed, POF is among the biggest players on the scene. At the time of this writing, it has millions of regular users, both paid and free.

But POF is not so famous for the excellent security features that other dating apps and online sites offer. But if you take a screenshot of the conversation, will the POF notify other users? Read on for the answer to this question. A brief summary of the screenshot policy of other featured sites and apps is also included.

POF and Screenshots

In summary, POF does not notify other users when you take screenshots of conversations on your phone or tablet. This also applies to the website version that you can access via a desktop or laptop computer.

With no official statement from Plenty of Fish and Match Group staff and management, it’s still unknown why POF didn’t jump on the bandwagon and join Snapchat and other social and dating apps that ban screenshots.

Moreover, the problem plaguing users of Snapchat, WhatsApp and other social and dating apps doesn’t seem to bother POF users even a bit. It’s impossible to find blog and forum posts about POF’s screenshot rules and regulations.

Terms of Use and Community Guidelines

To delve into things a little more, our team extensively scanned POF’s Terms of Use and Community Guidelines to find hard-to-understand screenshot rules. The only example where screenshots are specified in the Terms of Service document is the section where POF reserves the rights to screenshots taken to promote the service and include your profile and pictures.

The Community Guidelines section does not mention screenshots in any of its sections. Finally, the FAQ section of POF’s Help Center does not contain any questions regarding screenshots. All the usual suspects are there – profile setup and deletion, security tips and platform specific questions.

POF and Other Security Features

POF offers little in terms of user protection. Users can freely search for potential dates that fit their criteria and are allowed to chat with anyone. Also, users can nominate other users as the most attractive boys and girls.

Also, you cannot block a person who is bothering you on the platform. If things get out of control, you can delete your account. However, deleting your POF account is a long and somewhat complicated process, so many people prefer to hide their profile instead.

Apps Sending Screenshot Notifications

Snapchat, on the other hand, is leading the anti-screenshot alliance. The super popular social platform was the first to enforce screenshot prevention rules to make sure that messages sent on the platform are indeed gone when they are lost.

After Snapchat, Instagram did the same, introducing a partial ban on screenshots. While it’s okay to take screenshots of other users’ stories, you’re not allowed to take those stories in a private conversation. If you do, the other participant will be notified.

In 2019, WhatsApp started experimenting with screenshot rules. At the time of this writing, there is a ban, but each user must activate the feature individually from Settings. However, the feature is still in testing and reportedly fraught with issues.

It is important to note that WhatsApp does not send Screenshot notifications. However, it is included in this list as it allows users to prevent other users from taking screenshots of their conversations.

Apps Not Sending Screenshot Notifications

In addition to POF, Facebook also allows users to take screenshots. You can take screenshots of private conversations, other people’s profile pictures and even private information without fear of being notified.

Tinder is also among the leading social platforms and dating apps that do not notify or ban their users from screenshots. You can take screenshots of chats and profiles of other users and they can do that too.

Finally, Bumble is also on the big list of social and dating apps without screenshot notifications. Bumble will only protect users’ financial data and password. Other than that, it’s all up for grabs and free to take screenshots.

To Take or Not to Take a Screenshot, That Is the Question

While there has been a measurable shift towards the adoption of screenshot bans and notifications, most of the major dating and social apps and platforms still haven’t included this feature. We’ll see what the future holds for users of POF and other social and dating platforms and apps.

Do you think all major dating and social platforms should ban screenshots? Have screenshots of your profile or private conversations on social media gone online without your consent? Let us know in the comments section below.
