You must keep interacting with this friend to earn this fire emoji. This means that you must send snapshots between each other every 24 hours for at least three days. When you ‘fire’ with someone, you will need to maintain that interaction or Snapstreak will stop.

Do Messages Count Instantly?
Unfortunately, messages don’t count. When you chat with a contact, you don’t send any snapshots. So, that counts as a different interaction. If you message someone multiple times for 24 hours without sending any pictures or videos, your thread will stop. Emojis and stickers also don’t count as snaps for your win streak.
Snapshots are all media content you can create with a camera button. So the only two things that count as snaps to get your Snapstreak are photos and videos.
If you want to continue this series with your friends, you must send them at least one snap every 24 hours. Still, that’s only half the job. If you send snaps to other Snapchat users and they don’t take them back, your series will end. The catch must be mutual.
When you switch snaps for the first time in three days, you start a series. A user who is in line with you will get a fire emoji next to their name. This user will also see a fire emoji next to your name on their Snapchat.
Snapstreak What Else Doesn’t Count?
Other than messages, there are other forms of interaction that won’t help you keep your series.
- Group Chats: Snapchat doesn’t count any group interactions towards your win streak. If you have a Snapstreak with a user and you are both members of the same group, sending a snap to that group will not affect the series. Keep pulling directly to light the fire.
- memories: Sometimes the app picks a moment from its archive that you can share with a friend. Even though it’s a picture, it doesn’t count as a new snapshot, so it doesn’t count for your Snapstreak either.
- Stories: When you publish a story, you do it in a snap. This snap does not count. Your friend can look, but anyone can look too. If stories counted for Snapstreak, most of your Snapchat active friends would likely have a fire emoji next to them.
- glasses: Snapchat Glasses still exist, and if you use them sometimes, you should know that they don’t count towards your streak either.
Are There Different Snapstreak Icons?
The fire emoji isn’t the only one you can see while on Snapstreak. The fire emoji is the first icon to mark the start of the series.
A Number Next to the Fire Emoji
The number next to a fire emoji indicates how long your streak with a user lasted. For example, the number five tells you that you have been in a series with another user for five consecutive days. If you miss a day in the series, the numbers will restart as well.

The hourglass icon means your series will end soon. The hourglass will appear when the timer counts approximately 20 hours since your last snap. Since you have to exchange snapshots every 24 hours, this means you have very little time to continue the series. If you want to get rid of this icon, you must either exchange snapshots or let the series end.
100 Icon
The 100 icon is rarely visible. That’s because getting 100 emojis is quite a feat. To see 100 icons, you need to hold a Snapstreak with another user for a hundred days in a row. If you achieve this, you will get 100 emoji instead of a regular number.
What If You Lose The Series?
If your 24-hour period expires, you will lose the winning streak entirely. But sometimes a mistake can cause your series to be lost.
