Tinder has grown into one of the most popular dating services online, with over 50 million regular users and over 20 billion matches as of last year. With so many people matching up, relationships that started on Tinder have become commonplace, or even the norm. Meeting people on Tinder is super easy, and the emphasis placed on matching and chatting online before deciding to meet in the real world makes the app a comfortable and safe place for many users. It’s no surprise that many choose to upgrade to Tinder Plus, the premium version of the service.
If you want to upgrade to the paid version of Tinder but only have cash in your PayPal account, don’t worry. You can pay for Tinder using your PayPal account, but you must do so indirectly using app subscriptions from both Apple and Google on your mobile device. Here’s how you can do more on Tinder using PayPal to boost your account.
Paying for Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold
Unlike many other social apps, Tinder offers a “Plus” subscription model that provides access to a host of new features. The Rewind feature is a popular favorite as it lets you rewind your previous swipe (right or left) to fix a mistake and change your response for that person. Tinder Plus users also have access to “Passport”, which allows them to preview and match with people in other locations, such as on a vacation or business trip, before boarding a plane. Probably the most used feature of Tinder Plus is the unlimited right swipe, ad-free experience and five “super likes” per day to use on other users.
Tinder Plus runs most users $9.99 per month, while Tinder Gold costs an extra $5 per month and offers more features in addition to the Plus subscription. Both of these, as long as you know where to look, you can subscribe to using PayPal as your payment method.
Pay for Tinder through the Apple App Store
Apple’s App Store fully supports paying for apps via PayPal, as long as you add your PayPal information to your account. To do this, open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad and click the profile icon in the upper right corner. From here, select your Apple ID, then choose payment methods. By selecting PayPal from this list, you will be prompted to sign in to PayPal, allowing your App Store account. Make sure PayPal is left selected on your device and you can return to Tinder to subscribe to the service.
Paying for Tinder through the Google Play Store
Similar to iOS, you can use PayPal to pay for subscriptions and in-app purchases simply by adding it to your account as a payment method. Open Google Play Store on your phone and open the menu by swiping right. Select Payment Methods, then look for Add Paypal at the bottom of this menu. Just like on iOS you will need to log into your PayPal account from this menu, the big difference here is that you have to choose a default payment.
While iOS requires you to choose one payment method at a time, the Play Store lets you change how apps and subscriptions are billed when you sign up. This means you can use PayPal for your Tinder account while using a credit card or Google Play credit for other content on your Android phone.
How Do I Cancel My Subscription?
If you run out of money in your PayPal account or you decide premium Tinder plans aren’t worth it, you can cancel your Tinder Plus plan directly from the App Store where you first subscribed.
On Android, you can unsubscribe by going to the Google Play Store and then tapping the three-line menu item in the upper right corner of your screen to open the Google Play menu. Tap “Account”—you’ll find the account near the bottom of this list.
From there you will want to tap on “Subscriptions” which will load a list of every subscription linked to your Google Play account. Depending on how many recurring subscriptions you have in your account, this page could be populated with dozens of apps, or maybe just a few. Regardless, scroll through the list until you find where Tinder is listed and tap on the selection. You will be presented with two different options: cancel and update. The update allows you to change your credit card payment method (you can use your Play balance, Google Wallet balance, credit and debit cards and Paypal), but for the purposes of this tutorial we are looking for the “Cancel” option. Tap Cancel, then tap confirm in the pop-up message.
On iOS, open the App Store from your home screen and swipe all the way to the apps page. Here you will find several different options for settings and account information. Tap your Apple ID, tap “View Apple ID” and sign in with your password to view your information. Scroll through your account information until you reach the list of subscriptions and select “Manage”. From your list of actively subscribed apps, tap Tinder from the list and select “Unsubscribe” or toggle the “Auto-Renew” slider on iOS.
If you previously opted to unsubscribe from Tinder Plus, the subscriptions list in the App Store should show your subscription expiration date on your screen.
