If you’re a Tinder user, you’ve probably noticed right away that the only way to really book a date is to pay. The free version works well and is fine for some, but very limited in other ways. Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold are where the real game is. For a little money every month, you can use Tinder to its full potential.
This does not guarantee you an appointment. Far from it. It still provides a few more tools that increase your chances.
This isn’t a piece that tries to persuade you to subscribe to Tinder. If the free version works for you, you don’t need to change it. This piece is an explanation of what it is, what Tinder Gold subscriptions have to offer, and how it can increase your chances of getting a date.
Tinder Gold
Tinder Gold costs $5 a month more than Tinder Plus, but you need a Plus subscription to get gold. So you don’t just pay $5 per month, you have to pay $9.99 for Plus and then $14.99 per month for Gold. It’s not cheap for an app, but flirting isn’t cheap either.
Tinder Plus gives you:
- Unlimited scrolling
- Rewind
- Five Super Likes a Day
- Passport
- 1 Increase per month
Unlimited scrolling – He speaks for himself. With the free app, you pay for and get your unlimited swipes rather than a limited number.
Rewind – Did you accidentally swipe left when you wanted to go right? Rewind lets you undo your last swipe.
Five Super Likes a Day – Do you really like someone? Don’t you mind the risk of being creepy? Super Like them putting yourself in the front and center of their piles.
Passport – Passport allows you to change your location and hide your location if you are traveling.
1 Increase per month – A Boost places you at the top of people’s profile stacks in hopes of getting noticed. You can buy them as a separate consumable, but with Tinder Plus you get one free per month.
Tinder Plus also gives you an ad-free experience, the ability to hide your age, control who sees you, and influence who you see.
Tinder Gold adds:
- Like you
- Most Clicked
Like you – A special page that shows who is swiping on you.
Most Clicked – Top Picks is a curated list that the Tinder algorithm thinks you might like.
Currently, Tinder Gold only has these two features. More may be planned or not because enough people think these two are worth the extra $5 a month.
Tinder Gold Loves You
Of the two features, I find Likes to be worth the money alone in certain situations. If you live in a busy metro area, it may take days or weeks to find someone you like among the hundreds or thousands of profiles you may see. If you’re sexy enough for girls to want to swipe right, that makes sense, too.
At the top of your main Tinder page, you’ll see a profile picture with a golden circle around it. Select that and you should see a grid of profile pictures. If you’re hot, you should see a page full of them. If you’re normal, you might see a few. Either way, these profiles are profiles of people who have already swiped on you.
This is a huge time saver. Instead of playing lucky dive with the algorithm, you can jump straight to those who want to talk or meet up.
Tinder Gold Top Picks
Top Picks is a compiled list of profiles selected by Tinder because they fit the criteria or mentions on your own profile. Hover over a profile and you can see ‘Adventurer’ or similar identifier. You can sift them like your regular stack.
Personally, I don’t see any value in Top Picks. Selection is very similar to random selection and has the same mixed quality. For example, if it could fix the selections for my type, that would be great. A list of brown-eyed, dark-haired girls would be ideal for me, but it’s not. Whatever your personal criteria, Top Picks doesn’t seem to use it.
Is Tinder Gold worth it?
Is Tinder Gold worth the extra $5? It depends on where you live and how you use Tinder. In my opinion, Top Hits doesn’t work but Likes You works very well. As long as you live in a busy city with a large number of Tinder users, your money can save you from scrolling a lot and land you in people who already like you. For me this alone is worth the $15. However, your mileage may vary.
