Best Modified Kiks

You’ve probably heard of Kik, the hugely popular messaging app used by people all over the world. People use Kik for a variety of reasons – to search for love, to talk to friends on the other side of the world, and yes, to troll people anonymously online. Whether you use it to communicate with friends, find a date, or troll people anonymously, most smartphone owners have used the app by now. One interesting thing about the Kik platform is that people create a number of modified versions of the program, and you can install these versions on your phone in addition to (or instead of) the “vanilla” Kik app.

(Kik announced on September 24, 2019 that the app would be shutting down to focus the company’s energy on both its cryptocurrency Kin and its ongoing fight with the SEC. The original article continues below.)

To make a modded Kik, a smart coder takes the core app and tweaks it to do something different. Some allow you to use the messenger in different ways, while others allow you to circumvent some limitations built into the Kik platform. These mods are unauthorized and not welcomed by Kik developers, but they do nothing about them.

What is the purpose of a modified Kik?

A modified Kik does one or more things differently than a vanilla app. They may be faster or have a different interface or even add features. The most common mods change the look and feel of the app, and little else. One thing you should know is that some lesser known modded Kik contains malware or worse. Lots of Kik APKs are circulating that includes more than just Kik and its modifications. Proceed carefully!

Modified Kik has another facet. In the early days, Kik had a few flaws that exposed you or unnecessarily slowed down the experience. With a simple video link, hackers were able to reveal your IP address, crash cards could be sent as images or videos that could crash your phone, and delay codes that weren’t going anywhere, just designed to crash your phone. Most hacking threats come from angry or frustrated teenagers, but there are bound to be real threats out there. Considering how much we use our phones and how much personal data we store on them, it makes sense to protect ourselves as much as possible.

Modified Kiks are usually programmed to avoid these vulnerabilities. For example, delay codes are coded from all these modded kiks, while other vulnerabilities are bypassed in some or all of the others.

If you’re looking for a modded Kik to use, here are our picks for some of the best.

Our recommendation

peak

Pikek seems to be one of the most popular modded Kik at the moment. It not only lets you make UI changes, but can also change profile picture, font size and color, background color and image, and other tweaks. I’ve also seen a modified version of Pikek that somehow mimicked the camera but hadn’t had the chance to try it out. Judging by the numbers and those who know Pikek, it certainly looks very popular.

Second

Nullkik

Nullkik appears to be essentially a cosmetic mod that lets you tweak how Kik looks and feels. In our testing, the apps showed a number of changes to the core app, including various backgrounds, UI and font changes, and colors that worked pretty well. My understanding is that downloading Nullkik from the above source does not contain malware or malicious code.

everyone else

ghost kik

Ghostkik has the coolest name of all these modded Kiks. This is the Kik mod you want if you want a lightweight, fluid app that uses as little data as possible. The mod creator has set this app to contain as few lines of code as possible and use as little data share as possible while leaving the app running and comfortably usable.

Legit Ghost Kik works well enough, but I’ve only seen it in action, I haven’t tried it on my own phone. There are some hacked versions of this mod that contain malware, so if you want to use this version, make sure you download it from a reliable source.

pikik2

Pikik2 is an evolution of Pikik and it manages data transfer, latency and offers fake camera feature. It also offers the ability to block read receipts and disables the ‘typing’ message that the other party sees during chats. You can also add URLs to chats and disable forwarding of your messages for a little extra security.

I couldn’t get Pikki2 to work properly so I can’t prove its usefulness. The ability to change message settings is especially useful if you have one of your friends waiting for an immediate response without thinking you might be busy.

Matrix3

Matrik3 is another mainly cosmetic Kik mod that lets you disable message retrieval, disable downloading images, disable ‘typing’ notification and use many emoticons. There’s also a fake camera feature and a decent spam blocker that works most, if not all, of the times.

This is another modded Kik that I’m having trouble working with. I think it’s me or my phone rather than the mod because a quick review of Reddit showed many users working fine on their devices.

Other notable modified Kiks include Islamik, which is mostly a delayed cosmetic, BHKik, which allows multiple accounts to be used simultaneously, Merge, a modified version of BHKik, Bio, a fork of Pikkik2, and a few more. If you want more modded Kik, this forum post lists many of them at the bottom of the page.

As mentioned above, modded Kiks are unofficial and may contain more than you might expect. Use with caution, only download from trusted sources and watch what the app tries to access and how and with what it communicates. I’m not saying these ‘legal’ mod Kik’s will do anything, but you have to be careful there.

Modified Kiks are not supported by Kik or TechJunkie. This article is for informational purposes only; You use these mods at your own risk.
