Facebook ad sizes are changing more than Radio City Rockette’s costume change.

From introducing new ad formats to constantly updating the sizes and features of existing images and videos, Facebook likes to keep digital marketers on the alert, and with good reason.

One in five digital advertising dollars is spent on Facebook. The platform’s nearly 2 billion monthly users spend an average of 53 minutes per day on the site – more than Snapchat (33 minutes) and Instagram (32 minutes).

If you want to reach the eyeballs online, Facebook is the place to do it. This means that they will always find the best way for your ads to attract customers.

Despite all the changes, how do you need to design eye-catching ads that will attract customers?

Now you can with this handy cheat sheet!

Facebook video ad sizes

When it comes to video, Facebook has one important piece of advice to its advertisers: design for mobile first.

Facebook recommends uploading video with square (1:1) or vertical (4:5, 9:16, and 16:9) aspect ratios to maximize compatibility on both desktop and mobile screens. The platform also recommends keeping videos short (15 seconds or less) and designing videos that run with and without sound (by enabling subtitles).

Stick to the following video ad features for the best results:

Facebook feed videos

Minimum width: 120px
Minimum height: 120px
Resolution: at least 1080 x 1080 pixels
video rate: 4:5
Video file size: 4GB maximum
Minimum video length: 1 second
Maximum video length: 241 minutes

For all video ad types, Facebook recommends uploading “the highest resolution source video available without a letter or column box.” Facebook offers a comprehensive list of aspect ratios and features available for each ad type.

Facebook image ad size

Your customers want to see what they’re buying before they buy.

So, if you want to grab the attention of your audience on Facebook, you need to include images in your ads, preferably that showcase your product or brand in a unique, eye-catching way.

But designing image ads for Facebook can be difficult. Different ad targets (news feed, Messenger, right column) and display formats (mobile, desktop) sometimes require different ad sizes. Facebook’s Ads Manager now even lets you upload different images for different display formats and preview how an ad looks before it goes live.

For the best results, stick to the following attributes for image ads:
