Omegle is a great idea in theory. It’s a website that connects you with complete strangers and lets you chat about whatever you want. You can talk about hobbies, interests or random things, depending on the text or video. As always, there are many other websites that offer the same thing. Here are eight other websites that let you chat with strangers like Omegle.
I say great in theory because it encourages you to talk to people you might not normally be with in the real world. The truth is more of a mixed bag. Use the site long enough and you’ll quickly realize that many users are scammers, marketers, or people who want to ‘encourage’ you to join a paid site to chat more freely.
There are some real users too, you just have to split the trash to find them.
NSFW. Some of the websites on this list are suitable for all internet users, while others are not moderated or monitored. We all know what happens when no one is looking, so it’s fair to call them Unsafe for Work.
small chat
Tinychat is more about video than text, but has good user volume and lets you create your own room or join someone else’s room. There’s a little bit of everything here, politics, drug chat, games, girls, boys, movies, interests and general weirdness the internet can do.
Kamfrog
Camfrog is similar to Tinychat in that it’s basically video, based on rooms, and has the same random variety of people, places, and topics. Camfrog looks more international in its user base, which is very interesting as long as language doesn’t get in the way.
Chat Roulette
Chatroulette is a very popular Omegle alternative, but it requires Flash and won’t work if you’re using an ad-blocker. The large number of people using the site may make it worth disabling your protections for a while. To use this site, you must register using your phone number. While annoying, that means there are fewer scammers here.
chat
If you’ve used Yahoo Messenger, Chatrandom will feel instantly familiar. Chatrandom was born out of frustration with Chatroulette and offers a very similar experience with no restrictions. Chat is generally intended for adults, but there are also specific rooms for non-adult chats. The ability to set preferences for the randoms you match makes Chatrandom better than Omegle in my eyes.
FaceFlow
Despite its incredibly suggestive name, FaceFlow is one of the least adult websites like Omegle. The UI is good, the diversity of people is a real mix and the chat is really about all genres and not just trying to hang out or take pictures. You have to be a member to use it, but other than that, it’s a very good site to meet new people.
Exactly Fish
DittoFish is good in that it offers a great interface, easy access to chat, and a wide range of topics. It’s not so good that it requires a Facebook account to sign in, which means it will quickly learn everything about you. Other than that, if you want to meet randomly and spend a few hours chatting about whatever you want, DittoFish is fine.
hey people
Hey-People looks a little different with its all-black interface, but offers the same random chat options as the others on this list. Join the site, activate the camera and audio and choose between Something Private, Dating, Small Talk, Freak Show or Adult Stuff and start chatting right away. The site is simple, plain and allows you to chat quickly. No more, you can really ask.
iMeetzu
iMeetzu started as a pure text chat site, but has also developed video chat and dating. The basic app provides rooms, random chats, video streams and more. This site is more about the dating side of the conversation than any of the others here, but there are still non-flirting and non-adult chats happening all the time.
Chat securely online
All eight websites that let you chat with strangers like Omegle make it easy to meet new people and chat about anything. Most of the people you meet will be nice, real people with common interests, but some won’t be that good after all. Follow these guidelines to keep yourself safe while chatting.
- Never give out your personal information.
- Create a new or disposable email address to use with the chat app.
- Never join a chat site with your real Facebook profile. If the website requests the use of Facebook or try another site, create a new or fake one.
- Never offer to meet someone you meet in chat unless you are really sure. Even then, don’t go alone or tell anyone where you’re going and with whom.
- There is nothing identifiable in the video frame. Scammers will use it to target you.
- Don’t do or say anything in chat that you don’t want recorded. It is possible to record the live chat and you should consider that the person you are chatting with may be doing just that.
Chatting online is great fun and a great way to meet new people. As long as you’re careful doing this, your chat experience should be overwhelmingly positive.
If the rules bore you, I suggest you make it a little more fun. Create a personality to use in chat. Make up a name, a new date of birth, a new hometown, a new job, new qualifications, and anything else you like. Use this character online and not only will it keep your real details hidden from any scammer, it will also add an extra element to your interactions.
A Facebook login requirement gives you more exposure than you might think. As part of your personality, why not create a fake Facebook page to match it? You can enter all the details you have created for your personality and use it wherever you are online. Then you can share whatever you want from that personality without sacrificing your true identity!
