Spring has come, step into the spring… No matter how cliché you want to say to him, spring has come and as the tradition says, we need to clean the spring.
To celebrate, here are five ways to clean up your social channels.
1. Roll up your sleeves and go outside
Old logos and low-size profile pictures—get rid of it all. Update with the latest and right size images for each of your social channels. This small change can have a big impact on the impression your business makes. Not sure what image sizes you need for each channel? Take a look at our handy guide.
Also, be sure to check out your social media bios and profile descriptions. Are they up to date? Do they have the correct URL in them? Are they talking about something that happened in 2012?
2. Dust off these targets
Sometimes we get so busy that we neglect our social media goals and end up with a layer of dust.
Take them out and see how close you are to making them happen or if they’re still right for your business. If you’re not close to reaching them, what do you need to do to get there? If you’ve outgrown them, which new ones should you set?
Don’t be surprised if you need to make adjustments. Things are changing rapidly, both in the social and business worlds, and what you set out to achieve six months ago may just need fine-tuning.
Also, consider this a learning exercise; Do you need to do something different when bringing your goals together in the future? If you need to freshen up on setting social media goals, we have a blog post for that.
3. Give this social strategy a good cleaning
Get stuck in there with some elbow grease and look at your final quarter results. What’s going well? What doesn’t work well? What needs to change?
This doesn’t have to be a huge audit, just dive deep enough so you can make quick adjustments for those easy wins. When it comes to your social media strategy, a lot can be learned from a little data.
4. See if your Instagram account looks better over the fireplace
Sometimes efforts can be spread a little thinly when multiple social channels are involved. If there is one channel where your business excels, ask yourself: Should you focus all your efforts there, or can you repeat what you did there on other channels?
Not every channel will help you reach your target audience, depending on your business or brand. Twitter, for example, can be a useful customer service tool, but if you’re hoping to sell more products, perhaps Instagram is the best. Sometimes you may need to switch your efforts and goals from one channel to another to get a great return on your investment.

5. See what your neighbors (competitors) are doing
Pablo Picasso said: “Good artists copy, great artists steal.”
We don’t recommend stealing everything your competitors do, but you can learn from their successes and try to imitate them while avoiding their failures.
We recommend taking your three main competitors and checking their social channels. See what works for them and what you can implement in your own strategy. You can also use this information as a benchmark when it comes to evaluating your own performance.
When you complete all these tasks, you will have spring freshness and social channels ready to roll.
