What? Cure all my social media profiles in one hour. No dear?
Yup.
Got it – you’re busy. Or maybe lazy (no judgment).
Either way, you have posts to review, schedule, and publish. Campaigns to be announced, launched and managed. Emails to write and reply to. Countless deadlines for this and that.
And… a boss to please, so they’ll feel comfortable because ‘you have it’. So your brand will appear correctly on all your social media profiles.
This guide is for you.
Each tip should only take a few minutes. All together, about an hour. Plan for this week. You can do this, right?
The clock is ticking… What are we waiting for?
1. Make sure you’re using the right size images.
So your brand face will look professional and beautiful wherever you are.
Optimize your profile pictures on every network. Often times, this requires a quick trim that you can do in just a few minutes.
Just think about it… where else can these pictures appear.
E.g…
What will the expanded look like? Or when small appears in people’s streams? How will it look on mobile compared to desktop?
Each social network specifies optimum image sizes. Because they know all the ways to be seen. Trust them.
This guide tells it all. But since you’re on the clock, I’ll summarize a few.
- Facebook profile picture: 170 X 170 pixels
- Facebook cover photo: 828 X 465 pixels
- Twitter profile picture: 400 X 400 pixels
- Twitter header image: 1.500 X 500 pixels
- Google+ profile picture: 250 X 250 pixels (minimum)
- Google+ cover photo: 1080 X 608 pixels
- LinkedIn profile photo: 400 X 400 pixels (minimum)
- LinkedIn custom background: 1584 X 396
- LinkedIn cover photo: 974 X 330 pixels
- LinkedIn banner image: 646 X 220 pixels
- Instagram profile picture: 110 X 110 pixels
- Pinterest profile picture: 150 X 150 pixels
- YouTube profile picture: 800 X 800 pixels
- YouTube cover photo: 2,560 X 1,440 pixels on desktop
2. Use the same profile picture on every network
Your brand logo or image should be consistent across all networks.
The more you look the same in posts on social networks, the more likely you are to be remembered and remembered. When people need your product or service, they will think of you before your competitors.
But if you use different photos and logos, you undermine your brand’s visual identity (and recognizability).
3. Make sure your handles are also consistent
Constantly appearing for photos increases brand awareness.
Same for the arms. Also… it makes it easier for others to search and find you.
Want to increase the chances that people will mention your brand? And help them find and follow you?
back then Make it clear when they type the ‘@’ sign.
With a simple handle, as close as possible to your personal or brand name.
Almost every social media platform leaves a list to help you get clicked.
Now how would you appear in such a list with a jumble of name, city, region and other secret codes. This might work for 007, but you’re not in the spying game, you’re in the buying game.
4. Tag yourself for bad photos and inappropriate posts
Tags are great for talking to more fans. If used correctly.
However, if you tag inappropriate photos or posts, you will look like an amateur rather than a professional. You may also face legal troubles.
So… two approaches to making sure you make the best use of tags.
Check your photo tag settings
Make sure your settings are in line with your social media policy.
You can do some of the following for your networks:
- See where you’ve been tagged
- See who can see your tagged photos and posts
- Confirm photos you’re tagged in before they appear
- Remove tags from unwanted photos and posts
- Restrict who can tag you in photos
Check every mesh available for your strategy.
Review tags regularly
Establish a routine for checking and reviewing posts you’ve been tagged in. Then tag yourself for bad photos or inappropriate posts.
Why don’t you turn off tagging, you might ask.
Because:
- Like hearing your name being called from the crowd
- Tags get a response from others
- You can skip to related conversations
- You will appear in more places
Tags exist for these reasons, so don’t stop yourself or your brand from being seen more.
5. Be discoverable in a search
Use the right keywords in your profile to get discovered for your business, industry or niche.
When people search the web, you want your brand logo to appear above the fold.
It’s easy (and fast) to add the right words to your social profile.
Here are a few ways:
Identify the right keywords
Find out what people are searching for most when looking for professionals in your field. Keyword tools like SEMrush and Google Keyword Planner will help identify the right words and terms.
use these keywords
Update your social media profiles with the words and phrases defined above.
For: LinkedIn job title, description, experience, and skills sections. Do the same for all your social accounts. In your bio for photos, interests and more.
Don’t just stuff a keyword list into these sections.
Study them naturally, like how you speak. Search engine gods will reward you and rank higher. You will go up on the results page, not down.
6. Fill in each field
Make sure all fields are filled in when adding keywords to your profile.
Why?
Thus, readers will not perceive you as unprofessional and lazy..
And don’t write nonsense. Write short and clear sentences, explain…
- made by you or your brand
- What can people following you expect to see?
- Maybe even a clear call to action on what to do next (but that’s outside of this hour of power)
Make your words interesting too, not boring. Here are some tips I wrote for you.
Also, check this over time. Social networks remove, add and update fields.
7. Cross promotion
There is probably a ‘Website’ field for your social profile.
Most people go to their website. Makes sense, right?
But you can do better. Use this space to link to your other social profiles – as another form of cross-promotion.
- Facebook lets you add multiple website domains
- LinkedIn lets you add your Twitter account
- Allows you to connect to Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter
Mix it up for social networks that only give you a single “website” domain. Specify a valid landing or promotional page. Or a new downloadable guide. Update and change over time.
8. Test your connections
Hey, update your links while you’re there and make sure they’re working too.
There are typos. It only takes a second or two to test them. Otherwise, you will confuse users and look unprofessional. What’s worse is not getting these cross-promotion benefits.
Test every link in every profile.
This much. Next…
9. Build social trust
How? By asking friends for reviews, endorsements, and recommendations.
This includes friends, family, past and current customers.
It shows others that you have succeeded. Readers trust this more than an advertisement.
You won’t be getting all this on your profiles in an hour. It’s about asking.
Here are a few ways.
Use the endorsements section of LinkedIn. People can click to confirm your skills.
Even more powerful are LinkedIn recommendations. Make it easy for them when you want them (and you should).
“Hey Joe, it was great working together on our last project. Could you write a recommendation for me? If so, here are a few questions to make your job easier.”
- What abilities, talents and traits define me?
- What successes have we achieved together?
- why am i fine?
- What can be trusted?
- Are there any other distinguishing features that you think I have?
- What effect have I had on you?
- What was my impact on the company?
- How did I change what you do?
- What have you achieved with me that you can’t get anywhere else?
- What are the five words that describe me?
Pro tip: Give love too. Use these questions to write a recommendation for someone without that person asking.
Use the visitor posts section for Facebook pages. So people can highlight the good work you do.
For Twitter, pin positive tweets to the top of your feed. This allows you to control what visitors see when they first arrive.
There are so many good things you can create for yourself and your brand in a matter of minutes.
10. Pin your best content to the top of your profile
More information about Pins.
Unlike other posts, one is pinned. They are the first things people see when they look at you. Supports Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn pinning.
This is your chance to showcase your best work. Smart choice. Maybe an important message, a new landing page, a hot offer or a great video? Get the most out of anchoring.
How did it go?
Did you do all this in an hour?
But I know it’s still worth your time. It feels good to have all your social profiles organized and optimized for your business, it’s true. I bet your boss will dig it too.
