Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founder’s Edition Review: King of the Jungle

It’s been over a year since Nvidia launched the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, its premium gaming GPU. And even today the GPU remains the company’s best ever graphics card. Based on Nvidia’s award-winning Pascal architecture, the GTX 1080 Ti relies on 12 billion transistors, 3584 CUDA cores and 11GB of memory to produce the highest performance by any Nvidia GPU ever built. According to Nvidia, the GTX 1080 Ti is built for 5K resolution and beyond, but is it really? And is the performance justified? $699 price tag (in india Rs. 89,990 due to mining and import tax)? Let’s find out as we take an in-depth look at the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders Editions:

Design and Build Quality

Nvidia’s Founders Edition cards have always been praised for the way they combine great looks with a die-cast aluminum body designed to perform. Crafted with premium materials and components, the GTX 1080 Ti is an absolute beauty to behold. Honestly, it’s one of the best-looking graphics cards in recent times, thanks to the fact that it continues to give the audience an impression of its monstrous performance while providing decent tone all over.

Overall, there’s not much to talk about the design and build quality of the GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition, given that Nvidia went with a minimal yet powerful design made entirely of premium materials that add to the GPU’s premium look. (and the price tag).

Yield

Based on the award-winning Pascal architecture, Nvidia has launched the GTX 1080 Ti. Provides up to 35% increase in performance of GTX 1080. While this is a pretty bold claim, the truth is that the statement is true in most cases.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition Performance

To test the GTX 1080 Ti, I installed it on a test system from Beebom consisting of AMD Ryzen 5 2400G @ 3.9GHz, 8GB RAM, Kingston A400 240GB SSD and Seagate 500GB. Barracuda HDD running 64-bit Windows 10. In all my tests I ran games at 1920×1080 resolution and maxed out the graphics quality, Very High, Ultra, Extreme etc. I ran the settings labeled as . By itself it’s not the best hardware you can have in a gaming PC, but the beast didn’t mind the low-power system and still managed to topple every game in the park.

As you can see from the list above, the GTX 1080 Ti tamed the so-called stress test benchmarks and easily passed over 100FPS at 1080p without breaking a sweat. Even with the most demanding games like Metro Last Light, Rise of the Tomb Raider and The Witcher 3, the GTX 1080 Ti easily rendered frames above 80 FPS at the highest settings. And these are still well-optimized games. Even in a non-optimized game like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds the GPU was running the game at a steady 132 FPS with everything pushed to Ultra.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have a system to test the 4K capabilities of the graphics card, but I can assure you the 1080 Ti will handle all these tasks with ease. The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti is an absolute beast when it comes to performance and Definitely the best graphics card. However, if you have 1080p gaming needs, you’re better off with a GTX 1070 or even a 1070 Ti (if you want to push things). The 1080 Ti is a complete overkill for 1080p gaming and will mostly be limited by the limitations of your processor.

The 1080 Ti is for 4K and VR gaming and should only be used for these purposes.

thermals

Thermals are probably the biggest downfall of this GPU. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s not exactly a disaster but When you consider the monstrous performance of the GTX 1080 Ti, the thermal section seems like a disappointment compared to that.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition Thermal 1

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founder’s Edition, “cooled by a radial fan with an advanced steam chamber”. Or to put it simply, the GTX 1080 Ti has a single fan in the form of a blower-style heatsink. Which is good, but not good enough. When we talk about gaming, benchmarking, or even stress testing, the 60-80 degrees Celsius region is said to be standard. The 1080 Ti managed to touch temperatures of 80 degrees in the first 15 minutes of our testing, and then continued to climb up to 85 degrees.

Now I know what you’re thinking – this is the best gaming graphics card on the market and 85 degrees should be normal given its performance. TRUE? Not really. Because what you’re missing is the fact that it’s just standard temperature. Nvidia promises that GTX 1080 Ti can be overclocked up to 2GHz From the base 1.6GHz. And while I managed to achieve this success, In close contact with the 100-degree mark, temperatures were rising.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition Thermal 3

All in all, thermals aren’t that big of a disappointment and should work well enough for you if you’re going to be running the GPU at base clock speeds. Again, If you’re planning on using the GPU for heavy-duty overclocking, I’d suggest contacting Nvidia’s partners who have installed an extra fan or two. to better facilitate the overall thermal dissipation and cooling of the graphics card.
