iFootage Wild Bull T5 Tripod Review: A Great Tripod at a Competitive Price

If you’re a videographer or photographer looking to get into the high-end field of camera gear, I’m sure you’ve thought of a bunch of different tripods for your kit. While big brands like Manfrotto are already on your list, they’re not the only ones offering great tripods. iFootage — a company specializing in camera equipment, has its own line of high-quality tripods that you should definitely consider before making a purchase decision. We have the iFootage Wild Bull T5 tripod ($322) in our offices and have used them for many shots, so this is our review of the iFootage Wild Bull T5 Tripod.

Design and Build

Arguably one of the most important aspects of a tripod, the iFootage Wild Bull T5 does not disappoint when it comes to design and construction. T5 it’s made of aluminum alloy and it’s honestly made like a tank. Nothing about this tripod feels flimsy, and for all of our shots (which sometimes involves going to far places), we never felt that the tripod could break. This is something I only experience when using the Manfrotto tripod that we use on a daily basis.

While most of the T5 tripod is made of nice, heavy metal, plastic parts like the top of the head and The joints between the legs are made of composite plastic material that is impact resistant and also resistant to heat and cold.. Now here in Delhi we don’t experience extreme winters but incredibly hot summers and the tripod had no issues even shooting in the sun, so iFootage definitely means business when they say it’s heat resistant.

Other than that, the legs of the tripod are made of rubber and are much wider than the legs on our Manfrotto tripod which is a great thing in terms of stability. This rubber extension attached to the feet makes it incredibly easy to pull them off while closing the tripod. Most other tripods require you to grab the leg and pull it back, but these rubber pull-ups make this extremely easy.

Plus, If you’re shooting in mud, grass, or elsewhere, you can even remove the rubber feet to reveal the needle feet underneath. for better grip on such surfaces. Obviously, don’t use it on tiles and wood floors, otherwise you may have a dire need to hide scratches.

The T5 tripod has the characteristic iFootage red and black color scheme that looks really classy, and I personally love how great it looks.

Setting Up and Using the Wild Bull T5

Unlike the Shark Slider Mini we reviewed a while ago, the T5 really doesn’t need any mounts – most tripods don’t. Setting up and operating the tripod is pretty much the same as any other tripod. You take the tripod out of the bag, unfold its legs and set it up on the surface you need.

However, the Wild Bull T5 comes with some extra additions to make it easier and better than other tripods I’ve used for a long time. First off, as I mentioned earlier, the T5’s feet are quite wide, which makes them much more stable than other tripods (including the Manfrotto tripod we’ve used in the past).

This leg extension locks are a set of quick release locks (two on each leg) which makes it very easy to stretch the legs without spending too much time. Just pull the latch, extend the leg to the length you need and close the latch again. It’s a huge time saver which is a godsend when you need to quickly set up a shot.

other than that, iFootage includes a spreader in the bagwhich doesn’t seem like much, adds a lot of extra stability to the tripod And I always recommend using it. It prevents the tripod from extending its legs with heavy weights, and it’s a really useful thing. The spreader itself can be attached to the center of the tripod or at ground level, depending on the type of balance you want and the amount you spread the legs.

Add to all this the ball head that the T5 comes with and make up for some shots really easy to set up and also, as Sharun from our video team pointed out to me, it allows to quickly level the camera without messing with adjusting the legs.

Wild Bull T5 tripod supports a maximum load of 40 kgNot only does this make it easy to handle cinema cameras, it can also pack additional stuff on top of it without ruining it.

Head Compatibility

Since the Wild Bull T5 does not come with a head on which you can mount a camera (there is no high-end tripod), you are free to use the head of your choice on your tripods. The tripod uses a standard screw on the top, so will fit almost any tripod head out there.

We use a Manfrotto fluid head for our shots and it fits easily on top of the Wild Bull T5, which is great for us because it’s our head of choice for just about every shoot we go.

However, I also tried the X2 Mini head we got for the Shark Slider Mini and it fits perfectly. That’s why we can replace our Manfrotto head with the X2 Mini if needed and use the motorized pan-and-tilt feature for smooth shots.

portability

One of the major concerns for most high-end tripods is portability, and the Wild Bull T5 doesn’t disappoint here either.

Because the tripod is made of aluminum alloy Extremely light compared to other tripods that can support up to 40kg. However, if your use case requires heavy cameras and things to be tripod mounted. It’s a bit heavy if you’re using the tripod for a DSLR or something like the GH-5 we mostly use. That’s okay though, because it’s not meant for people who just want to mount a camera on it.

Also, a great iFootage carrying case perfect for carrying around. It’s padded and pretty thick, I might add, which means it’s completely securely stored inside the tripod. The bag is also waterproof.

Even when carrying the tripod without a bag, iFootage includes a rubber snap to keep legs connected Make sure they don’t randomly pop up while you shoot it.

The pros and cons:

The Wild Bull T5 tripod is a pretty impressive piece of camera gear. However, it does not come without its own pros and cons:

Pros:

  • excellent build
  • load up to 40 kg
  • easy usability
  • The spreader adds a lot of stability
  • The included carrying case is great

Cons:

  • a little heavy

iFootage Wild Bull T5 Tripod: Easy to Use and Incredibly Versatile

All in all, the iFootage Wild Bull T5 tripod is definitely a tripod worth its price. It brings a pretty sweet design, it’s built almost like a tank and comes with some additional quality-of-life features that I really appreciate having it on a tripod. Overall, for $322, the iFootage Wild Bull T5 is definitely not a beginner’s tripod, but that’s okay because it’s not meant for beginners. The T5 is geared towards pro users and those who want heavier setups on their tripods, and for all that, this T5 tripod is something I can easily recommend.

So, if you’re looking for a great tripod that is not only portable but also allows you to expand your setup over time and put heavier loads on it, iFootage’s Wild Bull T5 is a tripod you should definitely look into.
