The Samsung Galaxy series has been the most successful smartphone series for Samsung. When Samsung launched the Galaxy S3, it set the benchmark for other companies and helped Samsung dominate the mobile phone market. Samsung has released the Galaxy S3 with the best hardware specs and nice software changes that helped Samsung dominate the smartphone market.
With the Galaxy S3 in 2012, Samsung overshadowed Apple’s legacy; this was the first time Apple felt the heat and Samsung applauded the success of the Galaxy S3. But Samsung has bigger dreams this year, and with the launch of the all-new Galaxy S4, it’s clear that Samsung won’t surrender easily to any of its competitors.
The Galaxy S4 is a massive 5-inch handset with some hardware features (excluding the old plastic design). In the software department, Samsung has achieved this by giving some features that allow you to control many features without even touching your device.
Here’s a detailed comparison of what Samsung has improved on the S4 when compared to the S3.

The Samsung galaxy S3 has a plastic body design with dimensions of 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm and weighs 133 grams.
The Samsung galaxy S4 comes with a plastic body with a noticeable difference from its predecessor such as metallic band and texture to make the phone look premium. The phone is bigger, thinner and lighter, measuring 136.1 X 69.8 X 7.9 mm and weighing 130 grams.
2. Equipment
Samsung galaxy S3 has 1.4 GHz quad core cortex A9 processor with Exynos 4412 chipset and Mali 400MP GPU for graphics performance. The phone supports all basic sensors like accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity, compass and barometer.
Samsung galaxy S4 comes with 2 variants for LTE networks one of which is powered by 1.9 GHz quad core snapdragon 600 processor and Adreno 320 GPU.
For the rest of the world, the S4 will come with an octa-core (Quad-core 1.6GHz Cortex-A15 and quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A7) Exynos 5 Octa 5410 processor and PowerVR SGX 544MP3 GPU. Samsung has added 2 new sensors, humidity sensor and motion sensor. The screen supports floating touch, which is the same as what we saw on the Note 2.

Samsung galaxy S3 has a 4.8 inch display based on Super AMOLED plus technology with a screen resolution of 1280 X 720 and 306 ppi. The screen supports 10-point multi-touch with Corning gorilla glass 2 for protection against scratches.
Samsung galaxy S4 has a 5 inch 1920 X 1280 FULL HD display with 441 ppi based on Super AMOLED plus technology. It supports 10-point multi-touch and comes with Corning Gorilla glass 3 screen protection.
4. Storage and memory
Samsung galaxy S3 has 1GB RAM and 16GB internal storage which can be expanded up to 64GB via micro SD card.
Samsung galaxy S4 has 2GB DDR3 RAM and comes in 16/32/64GB models with the option to expand the memory up to 64GB via micro SD card.
5. Camera
Galaxy S3 has an 8MP rear camera with LED flash that can shoot videos at 1080p at 30fps. The front camera is 1.9 MP, which can provide 1080p video recording at 30fps.
Galaxy S4 has a massive 13MP rear camera with LED flash and a 2MP front camera, both of which can shoot in 1080p full HD at 30fps and simultaneously capture photos, videos from both cameras.
6. Software and User Interface
Galaxy s3 comes out of the box with android 4.0 ICS and can be upgraded to android 5.0. Jellybean (update already available via OTA or kies air.)
Some unique features
- There is S Voice which is a voice recognition service like Siri needs a data connection.
- Using the front-facing camera, Smart Stay periodically checks to see if it can recognize a pair of eyes looking at it, or it turns off the screen to save power.
- Smart Dial that dials a contact’s number for you by lifting the phone to your ear from the contact details screen or in messages.
- NFC and S beam to quickly transfer videos and photos between other S3s.
- Smart Alert, Phone will vibrate as soon as you pick it up to notify you of the notification.
- Social Tag, Recognize faces from Pictures and automatically propose picture as text to people in picture.
- Popup play, You can multitask while watching a movie or video, by enabling popup play, the video will be played in an animated animated widget.
Galaxy S4 comes out of the box with android 4.2 jellybean and will easily get android 5.0 in the near future. Some unique features
- Smart pause, While watching a video, the camera will follow your eye movements, pause the video when you look away from the screen, and resume when you look again.
- Smart Scroll controls when you look at the screen and moves the page as you tilt the phone back and forth.
- Air gestures, You can scroll through pictures, answer phone calls, change music, browse web pages, even without touching the screen, just by bringing your hand over the screen.
- S4 Knox security feature, This feature provides protection against malicious apps that users can download by separating their work and play profiles.
- S voice Drive, Samsung’s solution to the Nokia driver feature of the Lumia series, kicks in in the car and can dictate messages, ask for navigation or the app can read messages for you using just your voice.
- S health, This feature can manage your daily exercise and health report using some accessories.
- Group game, A group of galaxy S4 phones can share photos, music, documents, play games without using a WiFi hotspot.
- Story album, Samsung’s answer to HTC One, S4’s HTC zoe feature, allows you to create an activity album using location, weather information, notes, photos and videos.
- Dual camera, If taking a photo from one camera is not enough for you, you can now take video or photos with both cameras of the phone simultaneously with tons of options to add effects.
- S translator, Samsung voice adaptation, touch sensitivity auto-adjustment, IR sensor and Samsung adaptation screen, these are some other new features added to the phone.
7. battery life
Galaxy S3 has a 2100mAh removable battery with 11 hours of talk time over 3G and 790 hours of standby time over 3G.
Galaxy S4 has 2600mAh removable battery which means bigger battery and more standby and talk time over 3G but official data is not available.
8. Price factor and availability
Galaxy S3 is available for INR 29000 or USD 530 for SIM free unlocked version in various countries.
Galaxy S4 will launch with a price tag of around 700 USD or 38000 INR for SIM free unlocked version, but still, official pricing may vary in different countries as of April 2013.
