Acer Predator RGB Mousepad Review: For RGB Obsessed Gamers

RGB is at the heart of everything gaming these days. there is no such thing as “Too Much RGB”, so even hardware manufacturers have recently started installing flashing lights on almost everything. The Acer Predator RGB Mousepad is a perfect example of this. is priced $59.99 and comes with RGB. It’s right in the name.

Mousepad won’t hit India until late this year or maybe early next year, but we got a chance to play with it right after IFA 2018.

When the Acer Predator RGB Mousepad appeared on my desk for review, the only question in my mind was: Do I really need RGB lighting on my mousepad? That is exactly what I will try to answer at the end of this review.

Out of the box, the first thing you’ll notice about the mouse pad, aside from the RGB lighting, is the top surface. one It’s the polypropylene surface that definitely feels a little different from a regular mouse pad. It has a low friction surface and you won’t feel at home if you come from a soft touch surface. To be honest, it feels like I’m using my mouse on a standard desk, but I personally had no problem getting used to it.

As you can see, the edge of the mat has RGB LEDs that can be controlled through it. two physical buttons at the top. You can turn it off completely, adjust the brightness with the left button or change the profile with the right button. Also a The Predator logo is at the top, which nicely complements the pattern on the mousepad. Oh, the logo is also RGB-lit, because why not?

Unlike some other mouse pads like the SteelSeries QcK Prism RGB Mousepad (Rs. 4,000), Featuring a second textured surface, the Predator RGB mouse pad only has a silicone base. The full silicone coating on the back is great for smooth tables. The mousepad didn’t move at all the whole time I was using it, which I like.

Overall, I’d say the Acer Predator RGB Mousepad looks and feels good. I was able to use it in my office without being obnoxiously flashy and had a great time grinding on Fortnite for a Victory Royale!

However, that doesn’t mean the Predator RGB Mousepad has a flawless design. Before I talk about RGB lighting, there are a few hardware issues I’d like to point out.

Since the mousepad has RGB LEDs to be plugged in, I’m losing a precious USB port on my laptop/PC. Acer could have saved me from this nightmare by adding a simple pass-through USB port to the mouse pad, as Corsair did with its MM800 RGB Polaris Gaming Mousepad (Rs. 5,153), but I guess we can’t have all the good stuff.

Also, if you’re coming from a large mouse pad or desk pad, You may find the Predator RGB mouse pad a little too small. Yes, the small size won’t bother those with a limited desk space, but Razer’s Goliathus Chroma matte ($59).

RGB Everything!

As I mentioned earlier in this review, the Predator RGB mouse pad is a RGB strip running around mousepad. By default, the mousepad lights up in teal, but you can decorate this thing according to your needs. After all, it can produce RGB strip millions of different colors.

You can play around the lighting with the help of a companion app. Just like other RGB-enabled peripherals, many breathing, marquee, blink, etc. Different transitions and effects like I set my mouse and keyboard to show a breathing effect, and I did the same.

It is worth noting that the lights are beautiful and bright, and the transitions are smooth and pleasing to the eye. I think mouse pads can work wonders if you don’t have much to display on your desk.

One of the things I really like about the mouse is the companion Windows application it’s named after. Predator Gaming Device Integration. Don’t judge the software by its name because it’s a really neat solution. Mouse, keyboard etc. If you have other Acer Predator gaming accessories, you can manage them all with the same software.

The software itself offers extensive options for customizing the mouse pad. Besides the lighting effect, different game profiles and manage them all from here. The profile management feature comes in handy when you want to set different lighting effects for different games.

Acer Predator RGB Mousepad Review: Feeding the RGB Obsession

In general I can say that Acer Predator RGB Mousepad, one of the best mousepads I’ve worked on. To be honest, the lighting turned out to be much better and satisfactory than I expected and It did a good job at showing my favorite colors and effects.

However, it is worth noting that it is not yet available in India. Acer says it’s coming sometime this year, but we don’t have an ETA or a local price. We’ve also been informed by the company that it is working on a version with Qi wireless charging to wirelessly charge your devices and wireless mouse.

In the meantime, you can also check out Corsair’s RGB Polaris Gaming Mousepad (Rs. 5,149). Not only does it come with a similar price tag, but it also has a life-saving USB port when you run out of ports on your machine. Either way, you’ll be happy with your purchase. But before I close this topic, let me answer this question – Is an RGB mousepad really worth buying?

Well, if you have a really great RGB-equipped gaming rig, I’d say it doesn’t hurt to add a little more color to your setup. After using one for the past few weeks, I can safely say that while you don’t need an RGB mousepad, it’s hard to get back to a normal surface after using it. However, if you don’t have a great gaming rig to match RGB colors, I suggest you save that money and get a performance upgrade rather than aesthetics.
