Star buyers Deebo Samuel, AJ Brown, Terry McLaurin skip field practice to secure lucrative contracts

This offseason has been one of the craziest in NFL history, and it’s mostly for wide receivers. This offseason has seen WRs get paid like quarterbacks. The Green Bay Packers traded star receiver Davanate Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders, and the Kansas City Chiefs had to lose Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins.

Both the trades were about money and the other star buyers wanted to follow in Adams and Hill’s footsteps. Sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter 49ers star Deebo Samuel announced that Titans receiver AJBrown and Commanders’ Terry McLaurin are seeking new contracts and will not participate in any fieldwork during their teams’ off-season schedules.

Deebo Samuel and AJ Brown were selected in the second round of the 2019 draft, and Terry McLaurin was selected in the third round that year. All three players have entered the final year of their rookie contracts. These rising stars are seeking new opportunities at a time when wide buyers are securing record deals.

The Raiders signed a five-year contract with Davante Adams worth $142.5 million, includes warrants of $67.5 million, and will pay Adams an average of $28.5 million annually. Shortly after this record-breaking deal, the Dolphins acquired Tyreek Hill of Kansas City. Hill signed a four-year, $120 million deal that included $30 million per year, $72.2 million guaranteed, and also received $52,535 million at the time of signing.

Samuel, 26, is coming out of a career-best season with 1,405 receiving yards, catching six touchdowns and rushing for eight — an NFL single-season record for a receiver. Brown, 24, had to contend with a few injuries last season but still managed to collect 1,000 yards in each of his first two years with the Titans. He held 63 guns at 869 yards and five tank destroyers in 13 games in 2021. McLaurin, 26, had another productive season in 2021 despite Washington’s lack of quarterback quality. He had five TDs in 1,053 yards – his second straight 1,000-yard season – and 77 receptions.

The NFL’s off-season programs are optional, and players who do not participate are not subject to any fines or penalties. Given their excellent performance so far, it’s not daring for these buyers to ask for a higher paycheck. Let’s see how things will develop for these young talents in the 2022 season.
