The writing was on the wall for Zach Wilson and his worst fears came true. New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh took a bold step by backing up the young quarterback for the Week 12 game against the Chicago Bears.
Last week’s 10-3 loss to the Patriots was more than just a regular defeat for the team, especially the offensive forms that came up for the fixture. Zach Wilson takes a horror tour of the field, but that was the least of his problems.
When asked if he had failed his team’s defense, the quarterback flatly denied any accountability. This fueled discontent among his teammates in the locker room and these rumors came true thanks to Robert Saleh’s big decision.

Zach Wilson showed a lot of maturity after being picked up by the Jets.
However, the 23-year-old seems to have already gone through a huge learning curve in his relatively young career. After the decision was announced by Salih, he emerged with a positive attitude and vouched for improving his leadership skills.
Zach Wilson admitted to the mistake of not handling the situation properly, especially after his defense gave an outstanding performance and he was the only light source in a boring team performance.
“The way I handled the situation was not right” Wilson said, via Connor Hughes of SNY. “I have to be a better football player and then a better leader for these guys. Here I have the opportunity to turn a page as a player and a leader.”
“Tough, man” said Wilson. “It’s never fun. The first thing that came to my mind was that I had to go to work. I have to get better and I will get closer to that every day to keep working to get better. . . . I can’t say I was surprised because I didn’t do my job. Of course I would like to disagree with the decision, but I need to play better.”
Robert Saleh explained that the decision to put Zach Wilson on the bench did not effectively mean the end of his career with the team, it was just a way to better him for the coming games.
