“Politicians are a revival of SNL sketches”: Representative Jim Jordan ridiculed on Twitter for calling Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy ‘The Journalist’

The NFL’s time is not right, the league has faced a number of lawsuits ranging from the Cleveland Browns case, where quarterback Deshaun Watson faced multiple charges of sexual misconduct and inappropriate behavior, to the Jon Gruden case, which former Raiders HC sued. He claimed that he deliberately leaked emails against the league and deliberately tried to ruin his career. The league faced a setback when it tried to close the case by dropping the case, but the courts dismissed such an appeal. Then there’s the cherry on top, former Miami Dolphins HC Brian Flores sued the league and all 32 teams for racial discrimination in their hiring practices.

The case in question today is the ongoing investigation into the Washington Commanders organization. The league is investigating the team’s workplace, as the women who work there described the environment as toxic and full of widespread sexual harassment. Owner Daniel Snyder has been having a ton of trouble as he has been accused multiple times of mistreating women, and now a Congressional committee as well as the league has started scrutinizing the owner and the team. The league commissioner was also invited to testify before Congress, which he agreed, unlike Daniel Snyder, who refused to appear before them.

“I’m not familiar with this topic”: Roger Goodell on Dave Portnoy being banned from attending NFL games

Dave Portnoy and Roger Goodell

Roger Goodell has been accused of silencing his critics multiple times, most notably Dave Portnoy, founder of barstool Sports. Dave was banned from attending NFL games in 2015, technically after his company held a protest at NFL headquarters after Tom Brady was suspended due to the notorious ‘Deflategate’ scandal. To make matters worse, Commissioner removed Portnoy from Super Bowl LIII in February 2019.

In 2020, the NFL submitted an auction bid to do its part to donate to the COVID-19 relief effort during the 2020 NFL draft; the winner will get the chance to sit down and watch a match with Commissioner Roger Goodell. Dave Portnoy won it by paying $250,000, but didn’t get a chance to do so as he claimed the league failed a background check.

During hearings before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Reform, Commissioner Goodell answered a question about Portnoy to Representative Jim Jordan, a Republican statesman from Ohio.

“Why did you ban Dave Portnoy from NFL games?” asked the representative, the Commissioner replied by stating: “Congressman, I am not familiar with this subject, I would gladly consult with my staff but I am not aware of it.” Representative Jim Jordan replies contemptuously by saying: “Really, I think we’re all aware of that.”

Representative Jim Jordan received a lot of criticism for his question, which seemed irrelevant in this case, and the Commissioner also received some backlash for having no way of being kept in the dark about it. Take a look at how NFL fans react to this question.

The Free Press doesn’t matter after all, does it? But only when there’s someone else in the hot seat, when it’s your turn, press the issue and silence those who try to clarify.

Definitely. Why isn’t this already a prerequisite?

Portnoy started a sports and pop culture blog, which sort of puts him in the media category, but in that context, if Portnoy didn’t pay that $250,000 to Representative Jim Jordan, it doesn’t make sense why it came up.

LeBron James left Cleveland because the man representing them is Representative Jim Jordan.

Now? Some mysteries are just mysteries.

Ah.

With the league working for revenue, it’s no surprise that network rights, advertising rights, and player salaries have soared.

God, a waste of time and money makes sense, but oxygen, it’s kind of hard.

What do you think of this situation surrounding Goodell and Portnoy? Did Jim Jordan make a logical decision by asking this question, or was it completely necessary?
