The New York Jets have had disappointing seasons over the past few years, but when the team picked rookie quarterback Zach Wilson, Jets fans were delighted to see a glimmer of hope for the franchise’s future. Wilson had a mediocre rookie season and had moments that made the audience say “wow”.
Ahead of the upcoming NFL season, New York Jets Head Coach Robert Saleh spoke about the quarterback and his improvements in the off-season. The coach has ramped up the excitement for Zach Wilson’s second season.

HC Robert Saleh expects Zach Wilson to have a big season this year
Coach Saleh on Saturday New York Post I said, “Zach looks good, he’s definitely gained weight. It looks meaty, in a good way, definitely full. It still has all the slack while throwing the soccer ball, zipper and other stuff. She looks fine.“
Wilson weighed around 210 pounds or 95KG before the draft last year, was 6 feet-3, and could be better at dodging sacks and throwing the ball, adding a bit more mass to his frame.
It’s not just about physical development for manager Saleh, Wilson also became more mentally mature in the early stages of Year 2.He has a really good early command on offense and does a really good job at it, it’s the little things he does where you see a little more security. He’s not a rookie so he gets a little more vocal. She looks fine. He’s more comfortable, frankly, he understands the attack. He had no trouble understanding the offense, but he’s a rookie so he handles it. It’s definitely a lot further ahead than a year ago at this point.“
Wilson didn’t live up to expectations in his rookie season, but he wasn’t a failure either. He threw for 2,334 yards, 9 TDs and had 11 INTs while running 185 yards with four TDs. QB can’t be completely blamed for his performance as he does best with the guns in hand.
Zach Wilson recorded a completion percentage of 55.6 and played with a knee injury that he persisted in mid-season.
New York upgraded their offensive line by adding Laken Tomlinson and added some solid players to the tight end position via free agency. The team drafted WR Garrett Wilson and RB Breece Hall to improve their offense.
On the defensive side of things, the Jets also thrived on signing Jordan Whitehead and DJ Reed before picking Sauce Gardner 4th overall in the 2022 NFL draft. The team did their best to improve and improvise the record this season.
Wilson has joined the Jets’ volunteer off-season program, and with an improved physique and improved IQ, the QB is gearing up for a big season this year.
