“About the damn time”: Indianapolis Colts fire ESPN analyst Jeff Saturday HC Frank Reich for takeover as interim HC

Monday is the most hated day worldwide, but Indianapolis Colts You have an additional reason to hate Mondays. The team erupted. Last Monday was the offensive coordinators, the Monday before that was the start. Matt Ryan Kim remained a substitute for the rest of the season. This week is none other than HC Frank Reich.

Reich has been coaching the Colts for the past 5 seasons and his time was far from memorable. One of the biggest problems the former HC had to deal with was the lack of stability in the quarterback position. The team failed to find a reliable QB who remained in the starting role for more than a season.

Frank Reich had a very successful career as an assistant coach. He was the mastermind behind the Philadelphia Eagles’ offense the year they won the Super Bowl. Because of his experience and knowledge of the game, Jim Irsay chose him to change the fate of the Colts. Unfortunately, Reich was never able to achieve this.

This season was the last straw for owner Irsay, who went into action mode and laid off key staff to rebuild the organization and change the culture. This Sunday, Indy was embarrassed by the New England Patriots for their 26-3 loss, making it one of the worst ever.

Unlike Frank Reich, Jeff Saturday has no NFL coaching experience :

Colts fans celebrated and sighed after Frank Reich left, but Jim Irsay had another surprise for his fan base. Decided to bring the former six-time Pro Bowl Center Jeff Saturday Kim played 13 long years for the Colts. Jeff is a respected analyst. ESPNbut he was also a mentor for his former team and is also a member of the team’s Ring of Honor.

Note that Jeff has been appointed as Interim HC, so his position is not final. Jim Irsay can take a look at his performance and then consider whether it makes sense to make him the official HC of the Colts. Of course, people were excited to hire Jeff Saturday to replace other leading coaches with a high level of coaching experience.

Brian Flores, Eric Bieniemy, Byron Leftwich, and Kellen Moore are some of the best candidates in the league, but Irsay opted to cast a former player who had little experience in coaching at this level. The Rooney Rule, which requires teams to meet with Black coaches for coaching positions, does not apply in this case as the title is Interim Head Coach.

Does Jim Irsay know something we all don’t? It’s understandable that the owner knows his former player better than we do, but back then he was an athlete, not a coach, and certainly not a Head Coach. The job is tough, but we can’t completely ignore this move as Jeff Saturday deserves a chance to prove himself.

Considering this move by the Colts was unexpected, the pressure is now on Saturday to change the culture in the locker room and try to reverse the team’s losing season. There are 9 weeks left in the season, which makes this task much more difficult. The biggest question that awaits Saturday is who will start for the Colts. Who will take the QB1 position for the rest of this season? I hope Jeff Saturday can make a significant impact on his old team.

Here’s how excitement He reacted to this surprise move by Jim Irsay:

This seems to be the biggest issue right now, Jim Irsay overlooked qualified coaches whose credentials were proven and who gave a chance to a former player he respected and trusted.

We’re all as surprised as you are, Jeff, fair question.

Iconic. Jeff has been preparing for this role since his days playing.

It remains to be seen how well this decision turns out for Colts.

Roger Goodell is punching the air right now.

This is the sad truth.

Same reaction Nathan, same reaction.

Let Jimmy do his thing, Irsay, Jerry Jones 2.0?

Jeff went from analyzing NFL teams to being the subject of analysis.

I don’t know bro.

We wish the best for Jeff Saturday. Yes, the task could go to an experienced and qualified coach, but it’s also not right to trash Jeff without seeing what he can bring to the table.
