The LA Lakers are getting all the attention this season by appointing Darwin Ham as their new Head Coach for the 2022-2023 season, along with Lebron James and Magic Johnson. The Lakers were tackling their disastrous season and looking for personnel changes. The star-studded team of the Los Angeles Lakers failed to make it to the playoffs and has been and continues to be one of the biggest talking points in and around the NBA world. With LeBron James himself one of the Greats of All Time and two future Hall of Famers in Anthony Davis and newly traded Russell Westbrook, the Lakers looked intimidating on paper rather than on the court.
The Lakers had won the NBA Championship just 2 years ago in 2020, under the supervision of head coach Frank Vogel. After ending their worst season in franchise history and firing Frank, they now find themselves in need of a coach. As the clock ticked over LeBron James’ future in the organization, they faced more pressure to make the right hits, and it looks like Darwin is the right choice.
Ham played eight seasons in the NBA and has been a highly respected assistant since 2008, including with the 2011-13 Lakers. Ham has worked with the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks under Mike Budenholzer and has been interviewed for numerous head jobs. In 2011, Ham got his first coaching opportunity with the LA Lakers. Mitch Kupchak The Lakers GM gave him his first coaching job in the NBA. His focus as an assistant coach was player development, during which time he was highly respected in the NBA.

‘So excited’ Lebron James and Magic Johnson very happy with Ham’s arrival
Former Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach Darvin Ham is the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, and no one is more excited than LeBron James and Magic Johnson. Ham, 48, becomes the 28th coach in Lakers history to take up his first managerial position. He has been assistant to Mike Budenholzer with the Milwaukee Bucks since 2018 and played a key role in the road to the 2021 NBA championship.
The Lakers have failed despite an impressive season with LeBron James welcoming their new head coach on social media even before the move was made public. It’s interesting to note here that Ham and Lebron faced off in 2004, as Lebron is only 19 years old!
“Very exciting !!!!!!!!” James tweeted. “Congratulations and welcome Coach DHam!!”. Lebron made a statement on Twitter.
“I’m excited that the Lakers have hired Darwin Ham as a coach. Congratulations!!Former MVP and Lakers legend Magic Johnson was one of those who welcomed the appointment of Dravin Ham as the Lakers looked to him to get out of dangerous waters.
In 2013, Ham left to become assistant coach for Mike Budenholzer (Bud), who was appointed head coach of the Atlanta Hawks. Ham played under Bud for the Austin Spurs D-league team, of which Bud was head coach, in 2008. The Charlotte Hornets also want to hire him as head coach.
In today’s NBA you often hear the words “Big man coaches”, “Point Guard Whisperers” and “Offensive/Defensive pros”. Darwin Ham is a basketball coach, simple and straightforward, knows the game plan and has been part of some of the best teams of the last decade with the Hawks and Bucks. The Lakers could really use his experience and be an ideal coach for James as they want to repeat their Golden Days by dominating the NBA.
