Every franchise that LeBron James has been a part of has no doubt left an imprint on him. Whether it’s his game on the field or his relationships off the field. On one particular occasion, however, Bron was not too fond of bartering with his former owners as he took steps to take legal action against Micky Arison over image rights to a ship’s name.
Fans would know that after 19 years of dominating the toughest league, Lebron James truly deserves the nickname ‘KING’. However, a few years ago, LeBron James Trademarks (the Lakers star’s company) and his former team owner Micky Arison for a legal dispute over the same.
LeBron James prevents Micky Arison from using his pseudonym
Now to bring everyone back to the same page August 2019, Carnival Cruises filed a trademark for the name “King James” to name one of its ships by the same name. The same move was blocked by James’ legal team, as they were using a name very synonymous with Carnival and the 4x NBA Finals MVP. To cite why, there could have been 2 main factors that influenced LeBron James’ legal team to file a complaint about Carnival.
The first, of course, is to prevent the public from creating a false sense of relationship between the cruise line and LeBron James himself. The latter is likely due to the fact that LeBron James has been associated with the nickname for over a decade.
However, LeBron James has always managed to get in the heat of many events like this over the course of his 19 years. But this time, he was definitely not on the receiving end.
But for now, all eyes will be on LeBron as he begins preparing with the LA Lakers for the 2022-23 season. While purple and gold are expected to be in big action this season, it will be interesting to see what changes Darwin Ham’s team will make to compete for the silver teams once again.
