Apple iPhone users often face some common issues that can prevent them from launching installed apps. The typical recurring ‘This app is no longer shared with you’ error is a good example. Some sources report that the error can be caused by certain issues with iCloud Family Sharing. This guide will walk you through three proven ways to get your apps back on if you’re experiencing this weird error on your iPhone.
Apart from preventing apps from opening, this error also prompts affected iPhone (and iPad) users to update an unusual amount of apps in the App Store. For now we don’t know why this is happening and Apple hasn’t acknowledged the problem either. But according to current reports and information, the problem can also be caused by an App Store bug or an Apple ID complication. Without further ado, let’s move on to the solutions.
1. Install and Reinstall the App
To get rid of the ‘This app is no longer shared with you’ popup message, you need to uninstall the affected apps from your device and reinstall them from the Apple App Store. Uninstalling apps may cause you to lose some of their data, especially if you haven’t backed up the app to your iCloud account. To avoid this, you should empty the app.
Offloading an app from iPhone or iPad does not remove the app’s data. Instead, it simply removes the app from your device. In the meantime, follow the steps below to unload the affected app that displays the error “This app is no longer shared with you”.
Stage 1: Launch the iPhone Settings menu and select General.
Step 2: Next, select iPhone Storage.
Stage 3: Scroll to the bottom of the iPhone Storage page and select the affected app.
Step 4: Now, tap on Empty App and select Empty App again at the confirmation prompt.
This will only remove the app from your device and keep its data. For context (pictures above), offloading Snapseed from my device only removes the app (67.2MB in size) and keeps the app’s documents and data (12MB).
Additionally, the downloaded app’s icon remains on your device’s home screen. But this time it has a cloud icon next to its name. Simply tap the app icon to reinstall the device on your device. The app will be downloaded and reinstalled on your device.
You can also visit the app’s info page in the App Store to reinstall the app. Repeat this for all other apps on your device that display this error.
2. Uninstall and Reinstall the App
Uninstalling and reinstalling the affected apps should also help avoid getting this error in the future. Removing an app from your device removes the app and also deletes its data from your device. While emptying the app is a much safer and better option, uninstalling the app is also a useful troubleshooting method.
To uninstall an app that displays an error popup, simply long-press the app icon on your device’s home screen. Select Delete App in the Haptic Touch menu and tap Delete at the confirmation prompt.
Alternatively, you can go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage. Select the affected app and tap Delete App.
Visit the App Store to reinstall the app on your device. After (re)installation, you should no longer receive the error message when you start the application.
3. Sign out of Apple ID
Some users have managed to get rid of this issue by re-registering their Apple ID on their device. This means you have to sign out of your Apple ID and sign back in. This is pretty easy. Before that, we highly recommend that you read and take note of what happens when you sign out of Apple ID on your iPhone or iPad. After that, follow the steps listed below.
Stage 1: Launch the settings menu and tap your device name/profile.
Step 2: Select ‘iTunes & App Store’.
Stage 3: Tap the Apple ID email.
Step 4: Select Sign Out.
Sign in your Apple ID again on your iPhone or iPad. The error message should no longer pop up when you launch an application.
Fix Your Apps
As mentioned earlier, this issue affects both iPhone and iPad and our solutions apply to both devices. A simple device reboot also fixed the issue for some users. So, if none of the above fixes are giving the desired result, you can try this as well. You can try updating your device’s operating system, but this has little chance of solving this problem; The error is not related to iOS. We discovered that the “This app is no longer shared with you” error is spreading to different iOS users (those running the latest iOS version and those still stuck on older versions).
