Telegram is skipping popularity charts on both iOS and Android. Launched in 2013, Telegram recently received a huge boost due to WhatsApp’s privacy debacle. The service works reliably on any platform, with end-to-end encryption and many well thought out features. However, if you are new to the platform and facing Telegram Connection issues, read the post to fix the issue.
There are several reasons for Telegram Connection problems. But before taking any step, it’s always safe to check if Telegram is having problems on their end.
1. Check DownDetector
2. Restart the Router
If your mobile device is connected to Wi-Fi, you can reset the router to fix Wi-Fi related issues. If you are using Telegram on mobile data, make sure you are out of data.
I also suggest you restart your phone once. It can help speed things up and reallocate mobile resources. Too many apps open in the background can also affect open apps and their performance. Check if Telegram is connecting or working now.
3. Grant Relevant Permissions
iOS allows you to disable background sync and mobile data for any particular app. If you’re facing Telegram Connecting issues on iOS, it’s time to check a few options from the Settings app.

On iPhone, open Settings app, go to Telegram and make sure Background App Refresh and Mobile Data options are enabled.
On Android, you can long press the Telegram app icon and go to App info. Go to App Permissions and make sure the relevant permissions are enabled for the app.

4. Clear Cache and Data (Android)
Clearing Cache for Telegram does not mess up any personal data; it only deletes temporary files. Long press Telegram app icon to clear cache and open App info. Go to storage and cache and then clear the cache.

Now open Telegram app and see if you notice Telegram Connection problems.
5. Disable Battery Saver Mode
Battery saver mode aims to prevent apps from running in the background to save some battery juice. If you have this option enabled, consider disabling it from the Settings menu. iPhone users can go to Settings > Battery and turn off Low Power Mode from the menu.

Android users can go to Settings > Battery > Battery Saver and turn the option off.

6. Disable Data Saver Mode
Data saver mode on iPhone or Android may be preventing Telegram from working normally. If you have enabled low data mode on your phone, it may prevent Telegram from receiving messages.

To disable low data mode of iPhone, open Settings app > Cellular > Cellular Data Options and disable Low Data Mode from the menu below.
For Android phones, go to Settings > Network & Internet > Data Saver and turn the option off.

7. Update Telegram
Telegram frequently updates its app on iOS and Android. Telegram Connection problems can occur due to an outdated Telegram build on your phone. Go to App Store or Google Play Store and update the app to the latest version. Telegram Beta channel users on Android and iOS should update the respective builds to the latest versions with several bug fixes and performance improvements.
8. Disable VPN
Due to its strong stance on user privacy, Telegram is frequently banned in many countries. Change the location in your VPN or proxy app and check again. If that doesn’t work, disable them and use mobile internet or your WiFi network. If Telegram is currently running, your VPN/proxy plan has expired or has run out of bandwidth.
9. Reinstall Telegram
If none of the above steps work, you should consider deleting the Telegram app from the device. Reinstall the app from the App Store or Play Store and sign in using personal credentials.
Don’t worry, all your chats and media are securely saved on Telegram servers so you don’t lose any data.
