The Share Sheet on iPhone and iPad contains shortcuts to contacts, apps, and various actions. It’s convenient to share content from one app to another without opening the second app. Unfortunately, the Share Sheet does not work properly for many iOS and iPad users. If you’re in the same boat, this post will help you solve all your Share Sheet related frustrations.
Issues with the Share Sheet range from being completely empty to missing certain apps. The Share Sheet that appears blank in all apps is the biggest problem users face.
Let’s check out the various solutions.
1. Reboot Phone
You should start the troubleshooting process by restarting your iPhone or iPad. Sometimes, such an easy solution acts like a magic gift.
2. Disable Share Sheet Suggestions
For a few iPhone and iPad users, disabling contact suggestions on the Share Sheet helped them resolve the issue.
To turn it off, follow these steps:
Stage 1: Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad and go to Siri & Search.
Step 2: Turn off the switch next to Suggestions while sharing.

Stage 3: Restart your phone.

3. Check Recently Installed App
Have you installed any apps recently or did Share Sheet not work afterward? This particular app may be the cause of the problem. You should either uninstall it or see if there are any other updates available for the app.
4. Fix Contacts
As the Share Sheet automatically fills in contacts based on recent conversations, it often crashes due to issues with contacts. Basically, Share Sheet may crash if you have recently had a conversation with someone not in your contact list in any of the chat apps, especially WhatsApp and Viber. This may be due to the lack of required contact information to display on the Share Sheet or a bug in the app itself.
Here are some fixes that seem to have worked for iPhone and iPad users:
- Delete the last conversation you had with the contact, not in your contacts.
- Assign appropriate contact information to people you chat with frequently, especially those you’ve contacted recently through messaging apps.
- Enable Screen lock (Face ID or Touch ID) for WhatsApp or other apps. Open WhatsApp Settings from the app. Go to Settings > Account > Privacy > Screen lock. When Screen Lock is enabled, it disables the WhatsApp Share Sheet.
- Uninstall WhatsApp, restart the phone and then reinstall the app. Make sure to back up your chats to iCloud before uninstalling the app. Also, find out what happened by uninstalling WhatsApp.
- Disable the problematic messaging app from the Share Sheet as shown in the next fix.
5. Disable Apps from Share Sheet
For this fix, you must be able to open the Share Sheet at least once. If this is a possibility try disabling all apps one by one or if you know the problematic app then disable it as shown below.
Stage 1: Open Share Sheet from any application.
Step 2: Swipe through the list of apps until you see More.

Stage 3: Tap on Edit. Turn off the toggle next to the app you want to hide from the Share Sheet and hit the Done button.

If the app is listed under the Favorites section, remove it from there by tapping the red uninstall icon (it looks like a minus sign). Then press Uninstall. Once moved to the Suggestions section, turn off its toggle and hit the Done button.

6. Missing Application on Share Sheet
If the Share Sheet opens properly for you, but you notice that a certain app is missing, you need to add it to the Share Sheet. For this, follow the steps mentioned in the method above. So, open Share Page and tap More.

Then tap Edit. Now enable the toggle next to the apps you want to appear on the Share Sheet.

If you do not see the latest Message contacts on the Share Sheet, you must add the Messages to Favorites. To do this, tap on the little add icon next to Messages while on the Edit screen of the Share Sheet. Tap on Done to save the changes.

7. Reset All Settings
Finally, you should try resetting all settings on your iPhone and iPad. You don’t have to do this manually. There is an option available on your device. Similar to Android’s reset app preferences.
Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad to reset all settings. Go to General > Reset > Reset all settings.

With this option, all your iPhone or iPad settings will be reset to their default or original values. These include Wi-Fi networks, paired Bluetooth devices, brightness, sound, home screen, image, etc. Includes customizations. You will need to reconfigure these. However, rest assured that you will not lose any of your personal data. Learn in detail what happens when you reset your iPhone.
Start Sharing
This is how you fix Share Sheet when it doesn’t work on iPhone and iPad. Admittedly, everyone would be offended if the Share menu appeared blank on an iOS or iPadOS device. It’s also possible if a particular app’s bug is preventing it from appearing on the Share Sheet or if there’s no support. This will be different for all the apps you download and use.
We hope the fixes above were useful to fix Share Sheet not working issue on iPhone and iPad.
