Top 6 Ways to Fix FaceTime Not Working on iPhone

Can’t reach your friends and family because FaceTime isn’t working on your iPhone? What could be the problem and where exactly does the problem come from? Faulty app? Or your device? Do not worry. We’ve put together six tried and trusted solutions to get FaceTime working again on your iPhone.

If you are unable to make a FaceTime call to a particular contact, check that the contact’s contact information (phone number, email, or both) is correctly saved on your device. Check for missing digits or incorrect country code. It is also possible that the person has not configured FaceTime on their device. If possible, we recommend reaching them via another communication tool/platform.

Conversely, if you are unable to make or receive FaceTime calls with all your contacts, at least the solution in this guide should fix the problem.

1. Re-enable FaceTime

You cannot make or receive FaceTime calls unless you have FaceTime enabled on your iPhone. If you’re having trouble using FaceTime, start by checking that the service is enabled for use on your device.

Stage 1: Launch the settings menu and select FaceTime.

Step 2: Check if FaceTime is turned on.

If it’s already enabled but FaceTime still isn’t working, turn it off and then back on.

2. Run Network Troubleshooting Checks

FaceTime audio and video calls require an active internet connection. Restart your router if you are connected to a Wi-Fi network. For cellular data, check with your network operator if you have an active internet/data plan.

Other apps and services work with your internet connection, but FaceTime does not verify that the app has access to your device’s cellular data. Go to Settings > Mobile Data and check if FaceTime is On.

3. Check the Apple ID

Like iMessage, FaceTime will not work on your device if you are signing out of your Apple ID or there is a problem with your account. Make sure you have the correct Apple ID connected to your FaceTime. You can try logging out and reconnecting the account with your device.

Stage 1: Go to Settings and select FaceTime.

It may take up to a minute (or less) for Apple to sync the Apple ID account and FaceTime. So you have to wait for the account to reappear in the FaceTime settings menu.

4. Change FaceTime Location

FaceTime may not work on your iPhone if the app’s location is set to the wrong region, especially countries where FaceTime is blocked/restricted (Oman, UAE, Qatar, etc.). Here’s how to check and change FaceTime’s location on your iPhone.

Stage 1: Launch Settings and select FaceTime.

5. Check the Date and Time

Many device functions and apps (such as FaceTime and App Store) will not work properly if your iPhone’s date and time settings are incorrect. This applies to FaceTime on Mac and iPad, not just iPhones. Check that your device is configured to automatically update the date and time information. Go to Settings > General > Date & Time and make sure ‘Set Automatically’ is turned on.

6. Update iOS

Bugs and other software-related issues sometimes make FaceTime unusable, especially on devices running older iOS versions. Make sure your iPhone is up to date and updated regularly. Go to Settings > General > Software Update > ‘Download and Install’ the latest iOS update available on the page.

In addition to the solutions mentioned above, you can also try restarting your iPhone. This refreshes your device and can help clear up any glitches that are causing FaceTime to malfunction. You should also visit Apple’s System Status page to check if the FaceTime server is online and available. Finally, restore your device’s network configurations to factory defaults. If FaceTime is still not working, refer to this detailed guide to reset your iPhone.
