The Royale Update Might Clash: 5 Things You Need to Know

The hit mobile game Clash Royale was released worldwide in early March, and we’ve seen a few major updates arrive since then. However, more changes are coming in the May 3 Clash Royale update to address some of the issues and frustration players are experiencing. Double the Crown Chests rewards, triple the donations, get cheaper epic card upgrades, balance gameplay and more.

Clash Royale is a spin-off of Clash of Clans, one of the most popular mobile games of all time. Using similar troops very quickly in a real-time strategy and card collecting game. Extremely fun but also very frustrating when you lose 8 rounds in a row. It goes without saying that the game has slowed down for many people who started playing on March 2.

Many players, including myself, are starting to notice that the game has slowed down a lot as we reach Arena 5-6. Rare and epic cards are hard to find, almost impossible to upgrade without spending real money, and the game is starting to lose some of its appeal. As a result, Supercell has a major Clash Royale update coming in early May with lots of changes. Here’s what players need to know and the newly confirmed release date.

Clash Royale is not a game where players simply accumulate and upgrade or unlock to attack and fight like Clash of Clans and instead needs to be earned. This is all part of a lottery system where players get two “Daily Chests” with cards (troops) inside, which allows us to buy more troops, upgrade them and get better.

Chests are also earned by winning matches, but which troops are in any given card is a complete mystery and draw chance. While this is fun, it’s very frustrating when everyone you encounter has a card that you don’t have, causing you to lose a lot of battles.

Some players have to wait forever to finally get the Witch or upgrade the Baby Dragon, and when you finally get the card, most players probably don’t even have enough gold to upgrade them. Things are very unstable in Arena 6. forums Twitter says the same thing, with users complaining that game balance changes are seriously needed.

Supercell has noticed many of these issues and is working hard on a fix. They’re also slowly improving the game, and tournaments similar to Clan Wars want to give players more reasons to keep playing, rather than just adding live battle streams instead of replays and removing this frustrating but fun game.Screenshot_20160429-100340

Lots of new posts in Clash Royale confirm website A major update is coming soon, scheduled for early next month. That said, if you can wait, the game in May should be much better, accelerated and more exciting. Here’s what you need to know about the May Clash Royale update.

This afternoon Supercell confirmed that the major update will arrive on May 3, and it will have a bunch of other fixes not mentioned below. Like slower deployment of Mortar, shorter lifespan of the Bomb Tower or Canon, weaker Potion pumps, and other changes to balance the game. The image below is what has been changed, and everything detailed below will also make its debut.

Live Show

One of the best features in Clash Royale is the option to fight other players in your clan. This allows players to test new decks or strategies without losing trophies in multiplayer, and it also shows how many clans are hosting tournaments on the web, Twitch and other outlets.

Supercell adds “live-watching” mode to friendly battles; this allows clan members to watch others fight in real time instead of just replays. This will be welcomed and will help make tournaments better than ever before.

This should make tournament events more exciting, more interactive and allow everyone to watch the attacks in real time. We have something similar in Clash of Clans for Clan Wars, so it was only a matter of time before it arrived in Clash Royale. That’s not all that’s changed for tournaments, there’s more on that below.

Double Reward in Chests

Perhaps the biggest news that will get everyone excited for the May Clash Royale update is about the chests. As we all know, there are not enough troops in the chests and the game is starting to be slow, frustrating and expensive for anyone who wants to play at really high levels.

Chest Rewards will DOUBLE after update. Yeah!

Chest Rewards will DOUBLE after update. Yeah!

Crown Chests will give double rewards after the May Clash Royale update. Twice as much gold, more gems, and twice the amount of cards available. This is huge. The best news since the game came out.

This will make these upgrades less troublesome and make crown chests more valuable. Note, however, that this does not apply to all chests, and only to Crown Chests that are earned when a player reaches 10 towers in multiplayer battles. Other chests will unfortunately remain the same. Now I need more gold to complete about 25 upgrades waiting for me to earn more money. I won’t spend real money.

Triple Donations

Another problem is donations. While it’s nice that clan members can donate cards to help us raise troops, it still takes a long time to earn over 200 cards and raise most troops. Doubling the rewards will help and speed up the game, but we’re about to get even more donations from Clan members.

The donation system will evolve and increase as players progress and reach higher level Areas. It makes winning battles, trophies and getting more donations more important than ever.

As shown above, donations will increase after the May update. We can now claim 30 common cards and 3 rarities. Instead of one rare and 10 ordinary. Users will also be able to donate six community cards instead of just two. However, there will rarely be only one donation per request. Plus, who wants to donate three rares anyway? Not me.

Tournament Rules Improved

Finally, Supercell is making some major changes to the tournament rules to make gameplay more fair. Not many do tournaments now, but for those who do, you probably know that Legendary cards are seriously dominant in tournaments.

Supercell confirmed that they are good in normal multiplayer but very strong in Tournaments. Instead of knocking them down, the company will allow higher normal cards to fight against Legendary cards.

We’re not sure if this is the best route, as legendary cards can still definitely dominate. However, almost every troop shown in the screenshot above is 1-2 levels higher, which should give legendary cards a harder time in Tournaments and hopefully improve or balance the game.

Cheaper Epic Cards

Another big change Coming in early May What everyone should know is about Epic Cards. Most current players don’t have the last few levels of Epic cards, but once you reach level 7, it costs 300 cards to bring an Epic (like the Prince or Baby Dragon) to level 8. However, after early May. The update will only cost 200 cards.

Legendary cards will also see a similar drop. This is to speed up the upgrade process, make levels more accessible, and stabilize gameplay at the top. Those who currently own 8th level Epics will receive gem refunds for 100 cards they lost, now everyone can upgrade sooner.

Bonus info: Supercell is also working again to scale the Gold cost of cards in the Shop in a linear way (i.e. 20, 40, 60, 80) – and not exponentially as it currently does (i.e. 40, 56, 78, 109) – making them much more generally makes it reasonably priced.

Clash Royale Update Release Date

According to Supercell, all the changes mentioned above and probably more will come in the next update. This is officially scheduled for May 3, early next week.

When it arrives, the game will be more balanced, epics will be easier to upgrade, some players will have free gems and higher epic cards, and Crown Chests will get double rewards. Will this keep you playing Clash Royale or is it already getting old? Leave us a comment below.
