LastPass has been my first recommendation for anyone looking to invest in a good password manager. But lately the company has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. In 2015, LastPass reported a security breach that allowed hackers to steal user data.
To regain consumer trust, LastPass has made cross-platform syncing free for all users, with unlimited login support. Now the company has stated that there is another vulnerability in the browser extension.
Users are already looking for LastPass alternatives with offline and flexible password managers.
So far, I can think of two options. Enpass vs SafeInCloud — we’ve already covered this comparison. In this article, we will compete LastPass against SafeInCloud.
The comparison will cover parameters such as cross-platform usability, user interface, features, security, data backup and price. It will help you decide whether you prefer LastPass or SafeInCloud.
Cross-Platform Availability
Accessing your passwords across multiple platforms is just as important as storing them. Both apps are available on every mobile, desktop, wearable and web platform.
You can use LastPass and SafeInCloud on iOS, Android, Mac, Windows, Android Wear and Apple Watch. It has extension support for major browsers like Chrome and Firefox.

Both apps use standard iOS navigation with a bottom menu bar. But the color scheme is different.
LastPass uses a red and white theme. You can tap the ‘Add’ button in the upper right corner to log in. Main options such as passwords, safe notes, secure browsers are on the home page.
SafeInCloud is a mix of hamburger menu and bottom bar tabs. The main options like cards, favorites and search are at the bottom. Tap the hamburger menu to access the tags and analytical data.
I feel SafeInCloud needs a design change. Seems a little outdated to me. LastPass did a better job here.
Adding a New Entry
Both apps offer various default templates for adding entries. You can choose a relevant template and all the necessary details.
LastPass lets you add a name, email id, password, notes and more.
You can add a random password or use the built-in password generator to add complex passwords.
SafeInCloud is better here. Besides basic email and password information, it also allows you to add a one-time password. This is useful when you use 2FA (Two Factor Authentication) with any service and want to store the master password in one login.
In addition to key notes, you can also attach an image or file. i use it often. Sometimes I take a picture of the screen and add it to the input.
Specifications
SafeInCloud lets you add tags to each entry. So, simply tap on a social hashtag to access relevant entries.
SafeInCloud also offers a built-in data check to find a weak, duplicate, or expired password. The app also supports the iOS autofill sign-in option that Apple opened up to third-party developers with iOS 12.
LastPass presents a security issue that analyzes stored passwords and offers helpful suggestions.
You can also use the app’s built-in browser to browse the web safely. The killer feature of LastPass is vault sharing. One can make a separate login vault and share the whole folder with other team members.
Similar to SafeInCloud, LastPass also supports iOS autofill functionality.
Security and Backup
Both apps offer biometric authentication support on iOS and Android.
LastPass stores all user data in its cloud. It doesn’t let you choose the cloud provider you want. There is an advantage though. If you forget your password, you can recover your account.
SafeInCloud allows you to backup data on any cloud platform. You can create an offline backup file or store the data in Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox.
The application creates a 256-bit encrypted backup file for security purposes.
In case you forget the master password, there is no way to recover your account as you don’t have any credentials in the app.
Price
LastPass follows the subscription model. Pay $3 per month and access the app on all platforms LastPass also unlocks advanced features like vault sharing and priority support.
SafeInCloud offers an operating system specific model. You will need to make a one-time purchase on both Android and iOS.
Let’s say you bought the Pro version on iOS for $5. Now you are ready to enjoy all the premium features available and coming for a lifetime. However, you also get Windows and Mac apps for free. If you change platforms from iOS to Android, you will need to make another purchase for the Android platform.
Both services offer family sharing plans to share with friends, family, and team members. They are usually cheaper than personal plans.
Never Forget Passwords
As you can see from the comparison above, both apps have a different approach to password management. LastPass offers more out-of-the-box features, while SafeInCloud is more flexible on data entries, backup options, and price.
