You probably can’t count on one hand how many times you’ve broken an iPhone charging cable, whether it’s using the old 30-pin connector or the newer Lightning connector, but the MOS Spring iPhone cable looks like it’ll put an end to wear. remove the charging cables.

The cable itself is not only sturdy, but stylish as well. Sometimes, what happens to products when they get a solid version is that the design department stays in the background, but MOS Spring has come up with a solution that fits both categories pretty well.
Of course, the biggest question you can think of is exactly how tough and durable MOS Spring cables are. I decided to test it and compare it to Apple’s own iPhone Lightning cable to see how much more durable MOS’s Spring cable is compared to Apple’s traditional $20 cable.
I ran a few tests to see how durable the solid cable was, including hammering the connector piece, inserting an awl into the connector piece, slicing the wire with a utility knife, testing the cable for bending where the cable meets the connector. and maybe the real test of it all: seeing how well the cables hold up to pets.
Both cables withstood the hammer test quite well. I tapped each connector piece a few times and although there was minor wear and tear on both connectors, no wires were broken. In Apple’s iPhone cable, the connector is slightly bent, and in the MOS Spring cable, the aluminum is slightly bent where the weak parts are.
As for inserting an awl into the connector, both wires were damaged. I wasn’t too surprised at the results but a small part of me wanted the Spring cable to withstand it but aluminum really isn’t that strong. In fact, I was able to pierce the connector almost completely, whereas I couldn’t do it with the same amount of force as the connector on an Apple cable.
As for the utility knife, I wasn’t too surprised when I could easily cut Apple’s own iPhone Lightning cable and it took very little effort. I was able to cut it as well with the MOS Spring cable, but the woven metal exoskeleton required me to put a lot more force into the cut as expected.
The exoskeleton of the MOS Spring cable is nothing more than small metal wires woven/knitted around a normal rubber housing, which then protects the wires inside. It may not seem like much protection, but it actually helps a little.
It was interesting to test the bending strength of the cables. MOS Spring has a spring placed where the cable meets the connector to make this connection stronger because that’s where most iPhone cables usually break and split.
I clamped one end of each cable to a table ledge and tied the other ends to a five-pound weight and let them hang. Both cables showed serious bending at the connector, but the MOS Spring cable seemed to hold up pretty well, while Apple’s cable looked like it would split at any moment, so the spring attached to the MOS cable definitely helps.
As for pets, I had my cats chew on both wires, not only to see which wire they liked more or less, but also to see if they could get past the exoskeleton of the MOS Spring wire at the end of their teeth.
First off, both my cats enjoyed both cables equally. I was hoping they wouldn’t like the Spring cable, probably because of the metal taste it has, but my ignorance has taught me that cats will chew on anything nearby.
My cats were able to chew the metal exoskeleton on the MOS cable, so from there they could easily access the inside of the cable by simply chewing the regular rubber casing. However, they definitely take longer to do so, which can save you some time depending on when your pets start chewing on the cable and when you stop them.
Overall, the MOS Spring cable is in no way indestructible, and I wouldn’t even say it’s much more durable than Apple’s own cable. It’s definitely more durable and sturdy, but not by much. That said, all it really takes is that extra protection to keep your charging cables from breaking all the time, and when you spend $30 on a MOS Spring cable ($10 more than Apple’s own cable), you’ll likely spend less. Change your cables often.
It’s also worth mentioning that MOS Spring cables come with a lifetime warranty, so even if the cable breaks, the company will send you a replacement for free, which is the icing on the cake.
