Is ROBLOX safe for children to play with? ROBLOX is one of the most popular apps in the app store, but in new reports, some parents are deleting ROBLOX. Here’s what you need to know about the ROBLOX app and kids.
Starting with a Facebook post and splashing around in newspapers across the country, we learned what a father saw using ROBLOX chat.
Ian Lee Morrison checked out ROBLOX on the iPad and soon shared on Facebook that he was offered to engage in sexual activities with the character in the game just 15 minutes after playing the game. Here’s what you need to know about this claim and why your friends on Facebook are sharing stories about ROBLOX and pedophiles.
While there have been two reports from upset parents, there doesn’t seem to be any particular theme or trend of dangerous in-game communication in ROBLOX that makes it stand out more than other online games with chat.
Here’s what you need to know about this claim and why your friends on Facebook are sharing stories about ROBLOX and pedophiles.
ROBLOX Makes App Safer for Kids
New Roblox chat controls for parents.
Originally released in February, we’re updating this with a statement from the CEO of ROBLOX and new chat options that give parents more control over kids’ activities in the app. David Baszucki, CEO of ROBLOX shares,
“Our Roblox vision has always been to create a virtual amusement park where kids of all ages can socialize with friends, explore their imaginations and create new experiences. However, as with any amusement park – virtual or otherwise – we need to focus on keeping everyone safe while simultaneously balancing unlimited creative expression opportunities.
The safety of our community is a priority for us. We want all users to be safe on Roblox and I can assure you we will continue to invest in the security of the platform so it remains a positive, productive, fun and protected space.
When it comes to community safety, our work is never done. We use a combination of chat filters, both human and software auditing, and optional friend filtering to remove inappropriate content. In our continued efforts to improve our child safety features, we have released the following”
With the new update, parents can turn off ROBLOX chat completely. It’s now easier to see age settings while playing games. ROBLOX now includes “stricter chat controls” for users under 13. This will limit further word use.
The company is also taking a more aggressive approach to the games and content that the community is adding to Rblox, providing better guidelines for the developer community on what is not allowed in the game.

ROBLOX and Child Predators
Chat is part of ROBLOX, but there are options to control it.
From February 12, Ian Lee Morrison went crazy facebook post About what your child sees playing ROBLOX on their iPad or Tablet. The 33-year-old dad used the in-game chat option and discovered:
After saying “hello” to a few people, within fifteen minutes I was invited by other users to:
Follow them to their homes and bedrooms
lay on them
Imitate sexual movements
Constant sexual references
Asking my age and whether I’m a boy or a girl
If only they could adopt me”
Morrison said this “made me feel discouraged” and warned parents to delete the game from their children’s devices. All of this happens in the in-game chat. Another complaint It claims to have had similar issues with in-game chat and inappropriate messages as of January of this year.
Is ROBLOX Safe for Children?
What parents need to know about ROBLOX.
The ultimate question is: “Is ROBLOX safe for children?” It’s something we’re seeing on Facebook as users share the above reports.
Note that any game with in-game chat allows interactions outside of the game’s rating. This is why you see warnings that online interactions are not rated when you look at app reviews and video game reviews.
Listed as ROBLOX Member of the KidSafe seal program. The company has privacy settings so that users under the age of 12 cannot communicate with players they do not know. ROBLOX explains this process,
“These players must first befriend another user before certain activities are allowed, such as messaging, watching games, and playing on private servers.”
For players over the age of 13, there are options that the player or a parent can set to control so they can “interact with them in a variety of ways, such as messaging, trading, game tracking/invitations, and more”.
There are restrictions when it comes to what players can say in chat, publicly and privately. This depends on the age of the player.
“Posts and chats from players aged 12 and under are filtered both for inappropriate content and behavior and to prevent the publication of personal information. Players aged 13 and over are subject to a less restrictive filter than younger players, but inappropriate content is still strictly prohibited. These filters cover all areas of public and private communication in Roblox”
How to see what your child is doing on ROBLOX.
In addition to these filters, ROBLOX allows parents to see what their kids are doing on ROBLOX. This includes access to all four areas of the game. Parents can login to review;
This won’t prevent someone from texting your child, but it will allow you to see what they’re doing in the game and who they’re talking to.
You can do use this guide To turn on secure chat in ROBLOX. This gives you control over who can contact your children, even if they are over 13.
It’s important to take the time to learn about the apps and games your kids play, especially those with chat options. Many games, such as ROBLOX, include filters and controls that allow parents to monitor and control in-game communication.
