iPhone SE 4 (2024): the release of the affordable smartphone would simply be canceled

Since the launch of the iPhone SE 5G in early 2022, we have been quite disappointed with the lack of new features and part of its components from another eraseveral rumors were already talking about a successor, the iPhone SE 4. First planned for 2023, then 2024 one thing was certain, it would benefit from a brand new design with a notch inherited from high-end iPhones.

The problem is, famed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who is usually right, reported that Apple is considering its options for its next affordable smartphone. There was every reason to believe that the Cupertino giant would delay mass production of the device due to the historically low sales of the current generation iPhone 14 and iPhone SE, but Apple would eventually take an even tougher decision.

No iPhone SE 4 in 2024 for Apple fans

On Medium, Ming-Chi Kuo reports that the supply chain has received instructions from Apple stating: Production and shipping plans for the 2024 iPhone SE 4 have been canceled rather than postponed. As such, we won’t be entitled to an iPhone SE 4 in 2024, and we currently don’t have an iPhone SE 4 on the horizon for years to come.

This cancellation could have significant ramifications for Apple’s next high-end smartphones. According to Kuo, Apple originally planned to launch its home modem in 2024, allowing the low-end iPhone SE 4 to adopt it first.. Second, it was designed to increase Apple’s independence from one of its main suppliers, Qualcomm. But Apple worries that its chip’s performance won’t be able to compete with Qualcomm’s top modems.

So the strategy would be to launch it in the more affordable iPhone SE so no one could complain about the performance. Depending on the reception of the smartphone, Apple could later use it on the iPhone 16 in 2024, but the iPhone SE’s cancellation may ultimately mean that Apple isn’t about to abandon Qualcomm. The chip specialist managed to ensure that the iPhone 14 Pro benefits from 38% faster 5G speeds than the previous generation.
