Let’s be frank, the iPhone 14 has been a bit of a disappointment for many users. Apple’s new smartphone isn’t groundbreaking in many ways: With the exception of Dynamic Island, some truly exciting new features are at the fingertips. Is the Cupertino company resting on its laurels, or is it secretly preparing a real coup for posterity?
It is still difficult to give a definitive answer, but some elements seem to point to the second option. Indeed, our colleagues at Patently Apple recently discovered a patent submitted by the manufacturer that should please more than one person. Inside, the apple brand is describing a technology integrated into its smartphones that will eventually make it possible to take advantage of reverse charging.
Will Apple finally offer reverse charging on its iPhones?
Well, it’s nothing new in itself. On Android, the technology has been present in many smartphones for several years. Even Apple has already talked about this issue. Indeed, the iPhone 12 has already hid a system that allows reverse charging without benefiting its users. Since then, we’ve been wondering if the feature is still in Apple’s plans.
So this patent seems to indicate that it is. However, keep in mind that this is only a patent and it’s still too early to confirm the technology’s arrival in next-generation iPhones. Apple is no stranger to patents that have (yet) led to nothing, so it’s best to be cautious about this. However, we can also expect the feature to become available in the near future, perhaps even in a year or two. Only the future will tell us.
