An iOS 9 software update bug is plaguing Apple’s highly anticipated release and is preventing iPhone and iPad users from downloading the company’s brand new update.
As expected, the iOS 9 release time was 10:00 PT, and the iOS 9 update and features are now available for download for all iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch models that can run the iOS 8 update. The list includes iPad 2, iPhone 4s and iPhone 5.
Apple has not announced the release time of iOS 9, but the update came as planned. The iPhone 6 iOS 9 update is 1GB in size and much smaller than previous iOS updates, but many iPhone 6 owners and owners of other iPhone and iPad models are currently unable to install the update.
Many users are seeing the iOS 9 software update failed error.
The iOS 9 download is plagued with an “iOS 9 Software Update Failed” issue that seems to be plaguing a few iOS users. When we tried to update to iOS 9 on several devices, an alert popped up telling us “There was an error downloading iOS 9”.
For now, we and others are unable to download the iOS 9 update Over-the-Air via Settings. Other users are reporting similar issues.
While we’ve been able to establish a connection via the app within minutes of launch, installing via iTunes seems to work for some people. If you’ve encountered the iOS 9 Software Update Failed error and you can reach a computer with iTunes, you’ll want to give it a shot. You can also use an iOS 9 direct download to manually install iOS 9.
Apple’s servers are typically flooded with requests just at the time of iOS 9 release. So while there is currently no known fix for iOS 9 OTA download issues, things will likely improve as the day progresses. Download times generally improved in the late afternoon and early evening.
