iOS 9 Issues: 5 Things You Should Know

In September, Apple released three iOS 9 updates: iOS 9.0, iOS 9.0.1 and iOS 9.0.2. And while these updates brought features and fixes to iPhone and iPad, they also brought problems. Here’s what you need to know about these iOS 9 issues.

In early September, Apple confirmed the iOS 9 release date for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Soon after, the company delivered the iOS 9 update in all its glory and is now available to iOS users in the United States and around the world.

iOS 9 is very similar to iOS 8, but don’t let its looks fool you. The iOS 9 update comes with tons of new features. It also brings problems. So is Apple’s brand new iOS 9.0.2 update.

Many users are seeing the iOS 9 software update failed error.

While the iOS 9 update is going through a long beta process, the iOS 9 update is a major system upgrade, and major system upgrades often come with a host of issues. So do smaller updates, like the company’s minor iOS 9.0.2 bug fix update.

We’re only days away from iOS 9.0 and hours from iOS 9.0.2, and we’re already hearing about some of the first issues plaguing users.

With iOS 9.0.2 issues starting to pop up, we want to take a look at everything you need to know about iOS 9 issues today, tomorrow and in the coming weeks.

This early build provides you with a look at the issues and some steps to take if you encounter iOS 9 issues on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

iOS 9.0.2 Problems Annoying Users

The iOS 9 update is full of new features but also causing problems for some iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users.

The earliest iOS 9 issues were related to iOS 9 download. Downloading iOS 9 was unsuccessful for many users when it was first released, forcing many users to install it via iTunes. These issues seem to have resolved themselves and you should now be able to download iOS 9 Over-the-Air via Settings without any issues.

We’re also seeing complaints about iOS 9 downloads getting stuck. This is a common problem with iOS upgrades and thankfully a quick reboot (hold down the home button and power button together until the device restarts) should alleviate these issues.

Apple’s iOS 9.0.1 update will help prevent many future iOS installation issues thanks to a fix for the setup assistant. Apple’s new iOS 9.0.2 update is a bug fix update, but it also brings some iOS 9 issues, which we’ve outlined in an update here.

iOS-9-6

As the hours and days go by, we expect the list of iOS 9.0.1 and iOS 9.0.2 issues to grow. The iOS 9.0.2 update is only one day old right now. There’s plenty of time for feedback to emerge.

Now, it’s important to note that we’re not pointing these out to nitpick. We mention these to generate discussion (corrections often come from discussion) and to serve as a warning.

Remember, Apple never forces you to install iOS updates. Take your time with iOS 9.0.2 and install it when you’re ready. This could be later today or after the smoke has subsided this month. It’s not going anywhere.

They are Isolated

It is important to note that currently iOS 9.0, iOS 9.0.1, iOS 9.0.2 issues are isolated. It’s also important to note that we don’t see widespread complaints about issues that normally plague Apple’s iOS updates.

There are iOS 9 and iOS 9.0.2 issues, we’ve identified this, but none seem to be common (for now). Typically, major common issues affecting millions jump off the page, but we haven’t seen any issues other than these initial download issues.

We’re running iOS 9 on a variety of devices (iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5, iPad Air and iPad mini 2) and haven’t encountered any major issues or bugs with iOS 9. At least not yet.

iPad-iOS-8.4-9

We also haven’t seen many complaints about poor iOS 9 battery life, major performance issues on older devices, or connectivity issues. These are pretty common after major iOS updates.

The iOS 9 update is only a few days old and we’ll see some of these issues pop up, but this lack of volume is a great sign.

Again, it’s important to gather as much feedback as possible before installing major iOS updates. Complaints about iOS 9 will be loud and noticeable, but it’s important to note the success stories as well.

How to Fix iOS 9 Issues

If you’ve just downloaded iOS 9 to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and are already having issues, there’s no need to panic. At least not yet.

We’ve compiled a list of fixes for common iOS 9 issues that should help. These fixes include improving iOS 9 battery life, fixing poor Wi-Fi connection, and more. While this is a great starting point, if these fixes don’t work or you can’t find your issue, we suggest you go elsewhere.

You Can Still Downgrade to iOS 9.0.1

For now, you have another option at your fingertips. If iOS 9.0.2 isn’t working on your iPhone or iPad, you can upgrade to iOS 9.0.1.

Apple no longer logs into iOS 9.0 or iOS 8.4.1. The company usually signs for a week or two before pulling the cord, so that was to be expected. For now, you can still upgrade to Apple’s iOS 9.0.

We’ve prepared a step-by-step guide to walk you through the downgrade process from iOS 9.0.2 to iOS 9.0.1.

what’s next

Apple has not announced an iOS 9.0.3 update. And without the hero-level iOS 9 issues splashing out on users, we might not see it for a few days, a few weeks, or nothing. That’s why you need to be extremely proactive if you run into problems.

We know Apple has another iOS 9 update on the way. iOS 9.1 will be coming to all iOS 9 devices in the next few weeks. We don’t have an official date, but it looks set to push late October or November with the iPad Pro.

iOS 9.1 will bring new emojis, but iOS 9 will also bring bug fixes and security improvements to the operating system.
