iOS 9.2 was recently released, which makes us wonder when we’ll see an iOS 9.2 jailbreak.
iOS 9.2 is not a major update to iOS 9, but it comes with some necessary bug fixes, security fixes and some general performance improvements that users will appreciate.
It is the fourth update to iOS 9 so far and the second non-jailbreak update. An iOS 9 jailbreak was released in October, about a month after iOS 9 was first released, and although it was fixed in iOS 9.1, the jailbreak still works for any version of iOS 9.0.x.
That said, it’s not surprising that many users have been looking forward to a new jailbreak since Apple patched the old one, but we haven’t seen a new jailbreak release yet. It was also pretty surprising that Pangu released the jailbreak when it did, especially when iOS 9.1 was around the corner at the time, but the iOS 9.1 beta is said to fix jailbreak exploits anyway.
Now that iOS 9.2 is out, iOS 9.2 jailbreak is likely to be the next jailbreak to be released, so many users have shifted their focus to the latest update, but when will we see an iOS 9.2 jailbreak?
iOS 9.2 Jailbreak Version
Long story short, it’s unknown when exactly an iOS 9.2 jailbreak will be released, but it’s a safe bet that Pangu or TaiG is working on it as we speak.
If you’re not familiar with the jailbreak community and jailbreak releases, it’s extremely rare for jailbreak release rumors to pop up because the developer teams working on a jailbreak don’t talk about it outside of the team, almost like the government. Area 51 employees.
However, a new jailbreak usually appears randomly one day without any prior warning, so it’s highly unlikely that you’ll hear any insider information about the iOS 9.2 jailbreak before it’s released.
However, there is a rumor circulating. EverythingApplePro reports “Pangu has a working Windows utility [for] iOS 9.1/iOS 9.2 Betas & waiting for Apple to release iOS 9.2 to make sure nothing is patched”, which essentially means that Pangu has a working iOS 9.2 jailbreak out of the box if all goes well.
If that’s the case, it’s likely that Pangu will be reviewing iOS 9.2 as we speak to see if there’s anything they need to change in their jailbreak for iOS 9.2 to work on the final version.
However, we’d take this rumor with a grain of salt because of what I mentioned above – you rarely see jailbreak rumors, and perhaps more rare than “rarely”.
What to Do While Waiting
If you’ve been waiting for an iOS 9.2 jailbreak to be released, there are a few things you can do to at least prepare yourself for when it will be released.
First of all, don’t update to iOS 9.2 yet, otherwise you will lose your current jailbreak and cannot go back to the old version of iOS.
However, at least you can prepare yourself and download iOS 9.2 right now so you don’t have to wait for it to download when you really just want to update and jailbreak your device. You can do this in iTunes by clicking “Download only” when the update prompt appears, or go to this website and download the iOS 9.2 update file itself.
You can also back up your device via iTunes, as you will need to do this when you go to update and jailbreak your iPhone or iPad. However, you should still back up your device regularly.
Finally, we are not sure when the iOS 9.2 jailbreak will arrive, but it will probably arrive sooner or later. At this point, it doesn’t make sense for Pangu or TaiG to delay releasing a jailbreak they’ve got ready in the room, so once the jailbreak is ready, it will likely be released immediately.
