How to Reduce Photo File Size on iPhone and Mac

Most sites have limitations for uploading images such as your photo or documents. Such an application exists for sites to handle a large database of photos without affecting overall site performance. Reduce Photo File Size on iPhone

There is no native way to reduce photo file size on iPhone. You can’t even see the size of the photo file in the default Photos app. You will need to save the photos to the Apple Files app to view the size. Let’s look at the way to reduce image file size on iPhone.

1. Change Camera Capture Format

The most common form of photo and video formats may be why your camera photos take up so much space. Apple introduced the new High Efficiency Image Container (HEIC) format as an option to replace JPEG. HEIC provides high quality images in a smaller size. Follow the steps below to change the camera capture format.

Stage 1: Open the Settings app on iPhone.

Step 2: Proceed to the Camera section.

This much. Now Apple will use the HEIC format to take pictures, which saves space and reduces the photo file size. However, these images still carry a few MB of weight. You’ll have to use a third-party app to reduce it further.

2. Use the Image Size App

As the name suggests, the Image Size app allows you to quickly and easily resize an image to the size you want. You can specify the output format using one of four measurement units: pixels, millimeters, centimeters, and inches. Go through the steps below.

Stage 1: Download the Image Size app from the link below.

Step 2: Open the app and allow it to access the library.

Stage 3: Select the Photo from the Photos app.

Step 4: Select Pixel from the menu above and enter the desired Width and Height for the photo.

3. Send Picture to Yourself on WhatsApp or Telegram

The process is less complicated on Mac. The reason why it’s built-in way to reduce image file size on Mac. You can also change the image file type using the default Image Viewer app on Mac. Go through the steps below.

Stage 1: Send photos from iPhone to Mac using AirDrop or choose iCloud, Google Photos or OneDrive.

Step 2: Open the image using the default Image preview on Mac.

Stage 3: Go to File in the menu bar.

Step 4: Select Export from the menu below.
