How to Install macOS Mojave

The macOS Mojave update is now available to download and install. This free upgrade includes a host of exciting new features and promises to work better than High Sierra.

These new features include Dark Mode, the ability to use some of your favorite iPhone apps on a Mac, and a dynamic desktop to name a few. Another great new feature is that you can use your Mac to control your smart home.

Here’s what to do when you’re ready to install macOS Mojave.

  1. Open the Mac App Store
  2. Select Updates
  3. Click on macOS Mojave
  4. Download the update.

If you don’t see the update, Click here to find it on the Mac App Store. If you want to do a clean install of macOS Mojave, stop and follow these guidelines instead.

After the macOS Mojave download is complete, you can begin the installation. If you do a normal install, you’ll keep all your apps and data, but you should still have a Time Machine backup. Make sure you are plugged in for this process.

This is how macOS Mojave is installed.

  1. Click Continue when the macOS Mojave Installer appears.
  2. Double accept the terms and conditions.
  3. Choose a driver to install (Macintosh HD for most users)

  4. Login as administrator
  5. Wait for the initial setup to complete.
  6. Restart the Mac when prompted.

When the initial setup is complete, you will see a prompt to reboot. Save your work, close and restart your applications. This will start the second part of the installation.

This process can take 30 to 60 minutes to complete. If you’re lucky, the whole process will take less than an hour, but it could easily take up to two hours depending on download speeds and other issues with the install.
